Can't mark forum/site as read

As title, throws the "oops something went wrong" message when trying to "Mark site read" or marking a specific forum as read.

Am I imagining it though, or did marking site as read usually take you to a new page?  This seems to keep you on the same page, but it does seem to be actually marking them as read, as unread content is now blank.... just trying to work out if my memory sucks
