Dismantle a HDD and replace........

Edge

Recommended Posts

I have 3 x 4TB HDDs(there were 4) in a docking station which 'blipped'
I got the 'Access Denied' notice and I could find no way round it other than to Format (I did the 4th) and lose the files.

Here's my question.....
I have dismantled one before, so what happens if I replace the Logic Board (?) with one from a HDD I can access ?

You should be able to swap them between identical models with no ill effects.

Keyword: IDENTICAL. Same brand, model, and capacity and from the same production run if at all possible.

I'm not your savior, I'm just a naughty boy.

Late reply, but maybe someone can reference it for future problems...

It used to be possible with older (Usually IDE) drives to swap the board, but now with data density being what it is on these drives, the ROM chips on the board are unique to each drive.  If you want to swap the board, you need to swap the ROM chip, otherwise the drive won't work.
