Hotel Amber (Sep 22) - a Lottellee Winna Review

Intro - This was my first visit to Patts in over 3 years - I was ‘trapped’ in NZ because of Covid. I prefer modern, 4 star hotels, not stuffy or overly posh, just classy and minimalist.

Location- Hard to beat the location of this hotel. It’s on a small Soi just off soi Buhakow (about 150 metres and opposite Treetown running towards 3rd road). Great location for Treetown, Buhakow and LK Metro, plus Baht Buses running both ways up and down Buhakow. Check-in is quick, easy and efficient, and you should note that you will be asked to leave 1,000 THB deposit when checking in, this is returned at checkout. 

Rooms - If you are expecting a modern, hip property, then you won’t be disappointed. The room design is funky and fresh - I particularly liked the dimmer mood lighting. The room had no closet, just a hanging rail, which I initially thought odd, but TBH it was fine - also had drawers for socks and stuff. There is also a large modern safe. Good size refrigerator and modern flat screen smart television. There also was enough power outlets to charge my devices. The rooms are opened by electronic cards and the key needs to be placed into the holder in your room to power the electricity. 

The hotel is part of the @Mind group (regularly constructing new 4 star hotels at 3 star room rates). The room itself was spacious enough for me (I believed 26-28sqm). My room did have a decent accessible balcony with two chairs and a view across the city).  The bed was large and comfy enough to sleep on (including the pillows). The AC worked well, and the toilet, bathroom and shower room are in different compartments - perfect..the bathroom area was quite large and very definitely luxurious (great power shower).

Wifi - The WiFi signal quality is outstanding, and no need to log in every day.

Breakfast - The breakfasts in the @Mind group of hotels are usually ok, but TBH there is just so much choice elsewhere

Facilities - The hotel has a beautiful swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers. There is also a gym.  The hotel has a speedy elevator, and I never waited more than a minute or so.

Customer Service - As with all the @Mind hotels, customer service is outstanding. The staff were nice and accommodating. Everyone is very friendly and chatty. The receptionist is respectful to any guests you might invite back to your ‘loom’…no guest charges (for one visitor), ID cards must be handed in (a good thing in my view). Security is good and I felt safe and comfortable the entire time. The place is clean as a whistle...as always guys consider leaving a daily tip for the hard working cleaner.

Noise - This hotel is located down a small soi off Buhakow and is set 30 metres back from there. Very quiet indeed. 

Price - I got this at the ‘billy bargain’ price of 900 THB (via an Agoda offer). Note this was end of Sep2022 - regular rates are around 1300 - 1600…well worth it if you want 4 star luxury.

Overall -  this property is one that I really rated and will definitely stay again. Note that check in is at 2.00pm, but if you ask nicely you might get in before then (I did). This is not one of those hotels that do tour groups, so no large groups of Indian lads, nor coach loads of Chinese. US, Aussie, European and Korean guests seemed to dominate.  As in many hotels, maids can be a little reluctant to give extra towels (they get charged for losses) but a friendly attitude and a small gratuity gets the right result.

IMHO this is a really good hotel for those who enjoy 4 star and who want to be near (although not on top of ‘the action’). As always, the booking of this hotel is price dependent. If you can get it at under 1300 low season and 1800 high season, then my advice is to go for it.

My bad photography mate. The only ‘open plan’ part of the bathroom is the sink. Both the toilet and shower have seperate cubicles (both with their with their own frosted glass doors for privacy).

Yes I saw this on their website ... just the frosted glassdoor disturbed me a bit ...

I like a real "wood" door for all the bathroom ...

(just in case of a big farts ...)

Most of the modern hotels adopt the frosted look…presumably it’s about making the unit seem bigger than it actually is.

The one thing I really like with the heat in thailand is being able to come back to a cool room.  Note on the review that this hotel has the card that has to be in to activate all power.  Now you did say cards so guess question is will the desk give you an extra card so you can have aricon on?  Than you just have to worry about the maid coming to do her duty and always seems like they are trained to take card out, but usually you can work out schedule for this.  Guess if the room is small enough/aircon fast enough than this is bit of middle ground.

The a/c units are brand new and cooled the room quickly…that said if you have booked a double room, no reason why they wouldn’t give two cards (I think they gave me two).

Stayed at Amber 4 times in the past 12 months and booked with them for December, I agree with all your comments, it is a good hotel for quality, costs and location hence my return visits.

My only gripes relate to the cleaning staff, there's not enough of them, cleaning of rooms rarely done before 4.00pm and on one occasion they forgot altogether. Also, pool facing rooms, can get a little noisy outside, a couple of times groups of Indian men creating havoc around the pool until 03.00am. I did manage to do an early check-in at 09.00am but it cost me an additional 500bt (they can be quite strict on the 2.00pm check-in).

Since a mate and I discovered their property Altera we have been staying there when both in town.  

I think there was another review recently of this one.  Thanks to that and your one I'll give it a go next month.  Cheers

May be the current situation as there are not that many "tour groups" currently around, However, I stayed in it a few times pre-Covid and at the time there were quite a few tour groups using the hotel.

I stayed in early Sept and found the wifi terrible - it would often cut out and my phone would revert to 4G.

Also the TV had barely any english channels and would stutter alot.

Great review and great hotel!

I stayed here in 2019, regarding the facilities I would like to add that this hotel also have a nice sauna, but on the other hand the gym is very small, maybe more people would fit in the sauna than in the gym.

Thanks for the positive feedback mate…appreciated. 

I can’t remember room number, just ask for high floor and rear/city view.
