Thailand- Over the past week, Thai news has been dominated by a story in which a young female doctor in Bangkok was tragically hit and killed by a police officer speeding through a crosswalk on a motorbike while she was attempting to cross the road. I don’t want to talk about this horrific accident specifically […]

Ramble alert. Through the past few months I've been following the road disasters counts. Fatalities higher than covid nearly every single damned day. Yet, where is the awareness? Most of the milfs I've had the good fortune to meet have had some markings on their bodies from accidents. But they'll happily jump sideways on a motocy playing facebook while whizzing down the road. There should be an all in all year government campaign to increase awareness and shame the reckless. I believe it can be done to some degree, like drunken driving was in many western countries.

That it took the tragic death of a young prominent person to open a few eyes kinda just underscores how poor the situation is.

Ramble over. Time for a beer.

A start for Pattaya would be to build sidewalks on the very busy soi Buakhao.

Yeah, yeah….. should have done something about pedestrian safety on roads years ago, but won’t be done for years. Move on.

there are a considerable  number of pathways along buakhow ,

however there is almost total encroachment on these pathways by pubs bars restaurants ,and massage places etc .forcing people to walk on the roadway .

would it be possible to make these establishments move back to their building lines -very highly unlikely - TIT guys

True. What would really help imho, would be to make the street one way.

I feel sad for the deceased and her family. But the BiBs look after their own and are probably blaming the victim for dashing out in front of the unfortunate officer. As for motorcycle accidents, I have come across countless TGs who bear the scars of some motorcycle accident or other and they just laugh it off. Generally speaking, the Thai people's attitude towards road safety is just a part of their apparently carefree attitude to personal safety generally and that seems to be a reflection of the Buddhist sense of their karma and that acceptance that suffering in life is inevitable. It's just baffling to most westerners.

Well they didn't seem to take that approach when the Red Bull kid ran down the poor cop on his motorbike. For years they seem to have dragged their feet and done nothing to make him accountable, maybe it's the promise of money that made the difference?

I don't where that came from, but the Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya case is a perfect illustration of the BiBs looking after their own.  First there was the general foot-dragging and evidence bungling and for years there's been the story that they can't find him to extradite him back to the LOS, whilst all the time he's been hopping in and out of many countries, including Thailand, on private jets. I don't mean to be disagreeable, but quod erat demonstrandum, fellow monger.

Seems Impossible to place/extend/enforce pavements and retain two way traffic on buakhao. Barely enough room as there is.

Big hazard though, everyone in motion in the street seems stressed getting through. Saw some nobhead delivering grab nearly knock a TG on her ass the other day, near miss.

People with money, power or fame can get away with murder.  Remember O.J.?
