Bogus Arrest in Pattaya

I am trying to leave Thailand. Currently in Chiang Mai. Told yesterday that I have a theft charge against me. A few months back I was called in for questioning and no charges. Tried to leave the police station but someone wanted a bribe. 

I refused to pay. Apparently the charges still stand. Any advice including a good attorney would be helpful. Thanks.

I have no experience in this kind of thing; but, if I were you, after finding a lawyer, I would try to get him to pay my “fine” without me being there.

There must still be som ex-SAS or navy seals around Pattaya that could help you sneak out of LOS through the Jungle...

Besides that, lawyer up and let him handle anything with the BIB. Dont go to the police station if you can avoid it.

As mentioned already a lawyer or some good friend who "knows" the police most likely is a must , however with the charges pending will you be able to leave the country afterwards before its all finnished ?

more important is who told him he cant leave? And with that we are assuming OP is innocent.

Tourist comes over , steals a cap from a shop as a joke but its not so funny for the stallowner.

This. Just pay the fine. consider it a tax.

I once paid the police off in Medellin. Cost me about $70 USD. Another gringo in my building tried bitching me out for paying. "You ruin it for everyone". No, idiot, I pay 20-50k in the USA for an Attorney for simple disputes. I consider this a cost of doing business, and $70 is laughable to settle the issue. Don't let your ego land you in a jail.

If the fine isn’t absolutely ridiculous, just pay it and move on! Making a moral stand in corrupt countries isn’t always such a good idea! I had a mate end up spending 3 days in lockup over something similar!!!
