Review of Banyan Tree Hotel

I've heard of this hotel because it often makes the lists of best skybars in Bangkok (the Moonbar on the 61st floor), but I guess it wouldn't be open right now...

When I stayed there, every time I came back to the property in a taxi, the security guards at the gate gave it a thorough check. They ran a mirror under the car, seemingly checking for explosives. I don't know if this is normal practice or perhaps they had some VIP dignitaries staying there at the time

stayed there twice in the past using discount coupons I had bought back in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic... one time we got an upgrade to a REALLY BIG ROOM - and it was AWESOME - had a big dining room, big dining room table with 8 or so chairs, etc... way more than we needed, etc.. at first I wasn't sure if I liked the location, but it forced us to learn a new area of town, and we found a nice, older mall near the Sathorn (?) BTS stop... we only stayed 2 nights each stay, so not much time to learn the area... but overall, one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at in Bangkok...

Retired in Pattaya, Thailand - arrived April 1, 2014... Ohhhhh yeahhhhhh... LiveN my dream!

Wow looks a nice quality hotel and huge nice room too, good to see the Panama hat back on location. The meals look ok to me and served to you room.

Im guessing you got a good deal with the room there as virtually no tourists now….be some good deals on now.

I have stayed at the Banyan Tree many times, the company I used to work for preferred staying at the Banyan Tree when we attended quarterly meetings with our client in Bangkok. We used to stay in the executive suites on the 59th floor just below the sky bar. Definitely one of my favorite hotels in Bangkok.

The Banyan Tree is located on Sathorn Road about a 30 minute walk to the main entrance of Lumpini Park, 15 minute walk to Patpong, halfway between the German and Malaysian Embassies.  I booked the VIP package that included breakfast, a 1000 baht per day food and beverage credit (excluding alcohol), early check-in/late check-out, daily fruit plate, and a room upgrade.

Room was a high standard, liked the natural hardwood floor.

Most impressive was the huge bathroom, as large as the living room.

Good views from the bathtub

You could see the Chao Phraya River in the distance, from the 23rd floor.

They included incense, both stick and Liquid, next to the bathtub.  I found it very relaxing to burn the incense while taking a hot bath.

Another interesting feature were the emergency alarms scattered throughout, I suppose they could save your life in case of a heart attack.  There was a switch beside the bed and pull cables in the bathroom next to the bathtub, in the shower, and next to the toilet.  I almost pulled one thinking it was the flush.

Breakfast was included in the room rate, served in-room because of covid restrictions.

I was disappointed with the thousand baht food credit, I thought the choices were too limited and the food was just OK.  Here's what you could get: Chicken Caesar salad, Fettuccine Bolognese, and Chocolate Mousse.  Also a pot of green tea, not pictured.  I still had to pay 17% for the service charge and government tax, and supplied my own Bordeaux.

Alternately, here's the Chicken Cesar salad with a Club Sandwich and cheese cake.

The hotel lobby was nice, included a grand piano but there was nobody there to play.

I thought it was an OK place to stay but I doubt I'll stay there again, prefer either Sukhumvit or on the River.  Cheers.

Great review.

I haven’t stayed at the Landmark for 12 years.  For about the same rate the Sofitel is much newer.

All alone in such a big room Piece...such a pity...the bathtub would have been ideal for a photoshoot.

Great report anyhow.

  • 2 months later...

Great review, thank you. I've just booked the banyan tree for February. For some reason trip.com had an offer on the Serenity club room and breakfast for two at £90 a night for 2 nights. I don't want to waste the extra breakfast. Can anyone confirm that the banyan tree is free of the joiner fee?

Thanks in advance,

BFB
