I have a thai friend that is working in the usa.She will be working there on a cruise liner for 10 months in total. On her way back to los,she was hoping to do a stopover in the uk(n.ireland) for a while. any info on visas are what she needs would be great. it wolud only be for a few days.

I'd think she'd need a tourist visa just like everybody else.

A Schengen visa only covers certain countries in continental Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain etc). For Northern Ireland she needs a UK visa and for Southern Ireland a Republic of Eire visa. Went through this last year for my wife when we went to Paris, London and Dublin. She needed three separate visas. The Schengen and Irish visas were free because she is married to an EU citizen, but the UK one cost an arm and a leg!

She will need a UK Tourist visa Ireland is not a Schengen state.
