Royal Orchid Sheraton Review

I hadn't stayed on the River since 2004, then at the Shangri-La, so I thought I'd give the Royal Orchid Sheraton a try.  Room rate was very attractive at 1800 baht, room only.

 

Room was comfortable, of a reasonable standard.

 

 

Bathroom only had a tub, no walk-in shower.

 

 

Lobby is nice but not serving alcohol due to covid restrictions

 

 

Views of the river were outstanding from the 24th floor, all rooms are facing the river.

River City Mall is next door, but not much is happening there.

 

 

But River City Mall has a few restaurants, which came in handy since my room didn't include breakfast.  They have Starbucks, Subway sandwich, and a Coffee Club where I had some eggs Benedict while watching the river flow.

 

 

The hotel has two outdoor pools, one is unimpressive.

 

 

The Garden Pool is much preferred, there was an 8 person limit because of covid, which was not a problem since there were very few guests at the hotel.

 

 

These peacocks were hanging around in the garden.

 

 

From the Garden Pool, you could see the massive IconSiam Mall across the river.

 

 

The hotel operates a free boat to take you there but was closed because of covid.

 

 

Not a problem, the hotel in next to the Si Phraya Pier where you can get a free shuttle to the mall every 20 minutes.

 

 

The journey across the river takes about 5 minutes

I had most of my meals in the IconSiam Mall, there are 61 sit-down restaurants to choose from, not including the small mom-and-pop shops.

 

 

Here, the 6th floor for some Canadian Lobster with baked cheese.

 

I recommend the hotel and would stay there again, it's very convenient for shopping and about a 10-15 minute walk to the BTS.  Next time, I plan to request a room on the IconSiam side of the hotel to view the night fountain shows at the mall.

Well, here's the Shangri-La.  You can see the Royal Orchid Sheraton upstream behind the Mandarin Oriental.  I'm getting to the age I feel less comfortable bringing girls into these upscale hotels.

Enjoyed my first stay so much I decided to book the Royal Orchid Sheraton again.

 

 

Love the views, all rooms face the river.

 

 

The night views are particularly impressive.

 

 

City view is from the hallway.

 

 

Choice of two outdoor pools.

 

 

The garden pool is best IMHO

The lobby is functional but not spectacular

 

 

I ordered some calamari.  All cocktails were priced at 300, so I ordered a couple Long Island Iced Teas.  With the top shelf booze, they hit the spot, and I slept very well.

 

 

Catch the free shuttle to IconSiam mall next door.

 

 

The hotel's boat was still out of service.

 

 

Enjoyed my stay, rates were a reasonable 2200, about 400 higher than when I stayed there in May.  After May, the hotel shut down for 4 months.
