More Bar and Grill, downstairs from the Marriott

This was an impromptu dining experience in a place I probably wouldn't have otherwise ventured. More Bar and Grill is downstairs from the Marriott on Second Rd., right next to Royal Garden Plaza.

The theme here is very confusing to say the least. It tries to be sports bar/Asian chic/trendy nightspot/posh wine bar all in one, but it comes across as quite convoluted. The outfitting is lavish and looks rather expensive, but when you sit and look around the room, you wonder what's going on.

The menu is mostly western (at western prices) with a few Thai offerings. The menu items in Thai were not the actual Thai names, so even the girls had to ask why they put such names on the menu.

We ordered a mix of both.

I tried everything except for the Fettuccini for fear of having my hand bitten off :GoldenSmile1: and everything was OK, but really nothing to write home about. The restaurant was dead the whole time we were there. There was one guy sitting alone, but then I realized he was waiting for one of the waitresses as she came to sit with him for long periods. There was another couple that came in later, but that still made the total of customers less than 10 on a Saturday night in high season. Good thing there is a hotel supporting this place.

We went here last summer, they do a great fish and chips, and on our second trip, they had an all you can eat buffet, and the majority of the choices were fresh and delicious.

One point to note, the prices on the menus don't reflect on the final bill, some kind of service charge and it were'nt cheap, boosted the bill up considerably, which i think is a bit underhand, but it wouldn't stop me going back for that buffet again.

I was there at my last stay at the Marriott. It's a nice place with good food and cool drinks. My lady liked the

cocktails that they offer (what else?). But it's definitely overpriced. But what can you expect if you consider that

it belongs to the Marriott hotel. I thought the same when I came in the first time: Is it a sports bar (like they

intend to be) or a wine/cocktail bar/restaurant? Anyway we had a good time there.

This used to be Shenanigans before they moved to the new location, I used to watch a lot of Monday Night Football there while having breakfast. Haven't been back since the

change, but the place looks the same from the pictures except for new tablecloths. Shenanigans has the most expensive pint of Guinness in town, I wonder if the new management is keeping up with the tradition.

I've eaten here, and its okay, but not great. Decent ribs, but you can get far better at Bob's or at Beefeater's. This place did teach me that I don't like Blackthorn cider in the can. Otherwise, okay place.
