A Taste of Norway - Jomtien

Recommended Posts

Good luck for that. Seems to cater the 2 week millionaire clientele. Those prices at the currency rates like we have now, are very expensive. Saving grace can be the clientele is mostly Norwegian, who are usually loaded with cash.

A Taste of Norway - Jomtien

This restaurant has taken over from Linda’s at the bottom of Thappraya Rd just before the lights - opposite the Pig & Whistle.

....

I was never a fan of Linda's and Taste of Norway seems to be a little heavier food than I usually care for, still that beef stew does indeed look good.

As you are aware, I live near by and pass by the restaurant frequently. They are doing something right, as they usually have a decent crowd dining there.

I think pretty much all of the 300 baht dishes would be on the heavy side for you. You might enjoy the fish or steak dishes - but then you’re talking about 500-550 baht and up.

They do a version with lamb as well.

Had breakfast here once and it wasn't great, never went back. Agree that the service could use some work for this type of establishment.

Have had breakfast there 2 times in past few weeks. Not great, some poor quality ingredients-Thai baked beans, Chinese mushrooms.

However, when you order a breakfast, there is a soup & salad buffet, toast that you just help yourself.

Their bacon was good, as was the sauté potatoes.

Possibly you are type casting me a little too much, and that is probably my own damn fault due to earlier comments that I have made. I do enjoy Farang food (Beef Stroganoff, Beef Stew, and the like, when they are done right). I am also fond of lamb dishes, but tend toward French versions of those.

I try and avoid Farang foods that look to be carb heavy, although I am a fool for good pasta, which I try and limit to once a week.

That Beef Stew in your pic has my interest. I may make it in to give it a try. Think they might let me substitute mashed for the boiled potatoes? I hate boiled potatoes. My potential visit will not be next week, as I am nursing a dental problem and am eating soup, eggs, and white bread at home.

I can’t see why they wouldn’t, they do have mash on the menu. I wasn’t actually expecting potatoes at all. Other dishes have them listed but this one just said ‘beef stew with cabbage stew and cranberry jam’.

There is also ‘beef stew Norwegian style’ on the menu. I’ve no idea what the difference is between the 2 dishes.

Hope you get your teeth sorted soon.

We gave A Taste of Norway a try tonight. Although we both liked the food we had, we will not be regulars as I saw very few items on the menu that I would order, as I am not fond of Scandinavian food because it sits a little heavy with me.

I passed on the Beef Stew as the Creamed Cabbage was a bridge too far on this particular evening. Although after looking at Davidge's pic again, I would likely give it a try on a subsequent visit. I went instead with the meatballs and they were good and filling as well.

The GF ordered Pad Thai, which surprised me because there was no Thai food on the menu I was given. :Dunno:

Both dishes were good. I saw that they had a Beef Stroganoff item on the menu for Lunch, but not for Dinner. I seldom eat that much food for Lunch.

Entertainment for the Evening was that some old Farang went to sleep in his chair after complaining that his heart was racing. People running all over the place trying to figure out what to do. They woke him up and gave him some cold compresses. They wanted to call an ambulance, but he refused. His female Thai companion said "no big deal, he does this all the time". Only in Pattaya.

This place is doing really well, busy every night.

They draw decent sized breakfast and lunch crowds as well. Not really my cup of tea, but good to see a place doing well.

If they serve a good breakfast at a decent price, I would go perhaps even if they were called Duke of York.. maybe?

I do not really know, but what I do know -> the place focuses on (obviously by the name) Scandinavian food. This in general sits a little too heavy with me. I live very near this place (VT2A) and walk/drive past it on an almost daily basis. There is usually a goodly number of customers for all 3 meal times. They are doing something right.

I have dined there on occasion (I am not a breakfast guy) and the food and service were good, but like I said not quite my cup of tea. I prefer Italian, French, and American offerings. A little Thai as well.
