Spent 3 days there last month, just relaxing and sitting around the lake.  Flew up on Bangkok Air for 1850 baht, 30 minute flight, better than spending 6 hours on a minibus.

I drove to there from Udon a couple of years ago. It's a wonderful little town. Going out there on a minivan would have scared me to death. Just watching the minivans zoom past me on blind corners was bad enough. :-) I still have a dream of riding a bike around the Mae Hong Song loop, but so far it's just a maybe someday dream.
