I get my tourist visa from the consulate in LA. I get a double entry tourist visa for $70 ($35 per entry). The most entries that they will give you is two. There are consulates in LA, Chicago, New York, and Washington DC. Just pick the closest one to you.

How long can you stay with a double tourist entry visa? 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 days. I hear so many stories, like 60 for first entry, then a 30 day extension, then a trip to the border for another 60, then another 30 day extension. so, all total it is 180 days. Is this correct? Another thing that always is confusing is the airline ticket, does it need to show a return date which is 60 from departure or 120, or do you just take any airline ticket with an upcoming departure from your home and then change the thailand departure later after arriving in thailand?

180 days is correct. If you have a tourist visa I don't think there is any need for a return ticket, so the return date doesn't matter.

The embassy link above has this line in the tourist visa requirements:

- A copy of round-trip ticket or itinerary paid in full

This complicates things, unless the airlines will let me change my return ticket for one on another date, if I need to?

==> can I change my return ticket (in Thailand) for one on another date, if I need to?

Can one of you many frequent-fliers please answer this for me?

I am a newbie to international flying.

Thats the link to the list of Honorary Consulates in the US. It is much easier getting visas through them if it's a type they can issue. No Thais working there. Houston seems to be a very popular one.

I just checked my own link and it didn't go directly to the right page . You need to use the Select Directory at the top of the page and select the Honorary Consulate list.

You probably have an e-ticket so you can"t see the terms and conditions.

Check with the travel agent or airline you bought the ticket from.

Thanks for the input. So, I will heck with each airline involved, just before booking a flight. To be sure.

Just make sure you pay extra for the ability to change your dates if you need to. Some places like Orbitz will let you do it, and only charge a $75 fee for the dates I first inquired about. Some airlines may charge more, just check before hand.

But yeah, with 2- 60 day entries you can get 180 days. You use your first entry at The airport, then after 59 days ( don't wait till the last day and risk an overstay), go to one of the Thai immigration offices like Jomtien, pay 1900Baht and get a 30 day extension, then do a Cambo visa run which will run anywhere from 1500-2500Baht to use your second 60 day entry, then back to immigration. After that you can do a Laos run, which will give you another 2- 60 day entries and you can repeat the whole process.

The 30 days extension can be obtained as early as 3 weeks before the last day of your 60 days tourist visa.

Don't forget to bring a pasport photo with you and your hotelbusinesscard.
