Free WiFi now available at 25 airports

March 28, 2019  By The Nation
Passengers can now use WiFi hotspots at 25 airports in Thailand to connect to the Internet free of charge for three hours a day.

Ampawan Wannako, director general of the Airports Department, said the project to provide free Wi-Fi services was completed in cooperation with her department and the Advance Wireless Network Co Ltd.

Ampawan said passengers simply need to register and identify themselves for the first time via Facebook of DOA WiFI AIS to use the free services.

Passengers do not have to use AIS mobile phone services to be eligible for the free Internet connection, she added.

Only three airports run by her department have no free Wi-Fi services because the department has surveyed and found that passengers do not use WiFi. The three airports without free Wi-Fi are Pattani, Mae Sariang and Tak.

The 25 airports with free Wi-Fi services include Krabi, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ubon Ratchathani, Surat Thani, Mae Sot, Chumphon, Trang, Hua Hin and Pai airports, she said.

She said an initial survey found that passengers were happy with the speed of Internet connection of the free Wi-Fi services, which were provided as part of the department's plan to turn its airports smart airports in line with world standards.
