I think like most airlines it will depend on the ticket class i.e. economy will then be subdivided into several ticket classes usualyl dependant on how much you paid for it..

Your baggage allowance should be on your ticket. If not call your agent where you purchased it.

That said EVA Economy seems to be a flat 20kg although it depends on where you fly from. I would still check though.

Thanks for the fast reply 20kg not a lot is it im sure it used to be more with eva.

Yep, last time I flew EVA (Nov 6th 2006) it was 30kg in economy. I would imagine it has to do with trying to keep ticket prices down when the fuel rates went up.

Good news it there is not much need for even 20kg - just travel light and buy your clothes etc when you arrive.

Wow, only 20kg total? That's not a lot. On United, before I got status, I used to get two bags, 70lbs each in economy, three bags if I was passing through Japan. Now it's only two bags, 50lbs each in economy and two bags, 70lbs each in first. At least with my status now, I can still get two bags 70lbs each. And you're right, they're still doing stuff to save money. My IAD-NRT leg used to be 13 hours, now it will be over 14 hours next trip. Slower planes, less luggage = less fuel.

EVA is still 32kg from the USA but only 20kg from UK. I dont know why they discriminate but it must be some commercial reason. Maybe they have fuller flights, different types of planes etc.

Yeah, but even 32kg is still only like 70lbs. If it were 20 or 32kg per bag, then it would be OK, but total? That's pushing it.

Yeah but remember your shorts are bigger than the average guys :)

I agree its very measly but it can be done. I got used to travelling with hand luggage only for a while and just bought what I needed here as its so cheap.

Hey, that's not funny! :)

I also trave mostly with just my carry-on, but even that bag would be more than 20kg. Good thing United has never weighed my carry-on before.

I was flying with EVA from London to Bangkok once with a friend and his Thai wife. They were trying to check-in with 30KGs of luggage (my friends wife wanted to take lots of UK items back to her village). They were given the choice of paying excess baggage or reducing the weight of their luggage. They ended up dumping a load of non essential items and got the weight down to 24 KG's. Again they were turned back (I believe this was an act of stubbornness by the check-in crew as I have never had any problems with 24 KG's on a 20 KG allowance before). After dumping more items they eventually got down to the 20 KG's weight limit and were allowed to check-in.

i flew heathrow to bangkok wednesday last week - had 2 bags that weighed 27kg in total and had no problem - on top of this i had a carry on bag aswell with laptop and other valuables in.i think it just depends whether the woman on the desk is having a good day or not.some will let you go and some will insist you pay.

20kg is what they tell you.

25kg is the unofficial limit.

what about the return flight? BKK - LHR

Also is it the same rules about hand luggage no pens or bottles etc?

I flew with EVA from LHR to BKK last September. They were weighing both the hold baggage and the carry on baggage at check in and were being very strict. There were a few people repacking bags by the desk. I had no problem with the hold baggage as 20kgs is enough for me for 2 weeks but my carry on bag was overweight (something like 9 kilos v limit of 6 or 7 kilos) and I nearly had to re pack some stuff into the suitcase until the EVA guy realised that I had a laptop in my carry on and that was exempt from the weight limit. So I would be careful on keeping to the weight limits.

The flight was full so possibly they have to be more careful to keep to the limits when the flights are full as there will be a lot of weight on the plane. Maybe when the flight is half empty, they will be more flexible about baggage weight ?
