Bahrain Airport - Connection times

Evening All,

I've done a number of flights that changed in Middle East with quick turnarounds but I've seen a flight with Gulf Air that leaves Bangkok at 21:30 and gets into Bahrain 00:15 and then connecting flight is at 01:15 arriving into Heathrow at 06:25.

Has anyone done these flights before or done similar in Bahrain connecting in an hour?

Any issues or plain sailing would like to know your experiences.

Cheers.

I’ve done it once. There’s security and scanning to get from the arrival area to the departure area and there was a miserable bugger with a hand-held scanner at the gate of the LHR flight. That flight was actually an hour late taking off so there was plenty of time. I got the impression this happens quite often. The scheduled flight duration is longer than the actual duration, and airlines are not allowed to land before a certain time at LHR, so the flight takes off late.

They’ve had that schedule for a while so I assume it does work for people.

The only thing I will say is that the staff there aren’t very helpful so don’t expect much help if there’s a delay to your incoming flight.

Tell the chief purser about your need for a speedy transfer to the next flight.

Your aim is to be escorted off your incoming flight and guided to the departure gate for the outgoing one.

This has been my own experience three or four times, all was well; the key thing is to make your request to the right person in good time for him/her to arrange your guided transfer.

I’ve done that route a few times and with a brisk walk and no hanging around made it with time to spare. No drama.

Cheers for comments, if I decide to use those flights I'll deffo remember your comments especially about letting the right person know  so they can assist in the transfer.

Remember to bring a sweater with you too, The a/c is always on full tilt and it’s the coldest airport in the world.

I had a connection not much longer than that last year, and the plane was delayed leaving Bangkok as the incoming flight was late. As Gulf air doesn't have the biggest route network there was another 40 people making the same connection as me, so they held the plane at Bahrain for the journey to Heathrow, and hurried us through security.
