American / Canadian Breakfast in Pattaya?

Gibsons1

Recommended Posts

Every breakfast in my 2 trips to Thailand have been mediocre, mostly English oriented breakfast.

Any restaurant have real American style bacon, eggs, potatoes (or home fries/patties), omelettes, good breakfast sausages, etc?

The bacon is different, the 'sausages' taste like hot dogs most of the time, sometimes there's a hockey puck and oil soaked toast on your plate - seriously - do people eat this shit?  Sorry to say but a McD's Sausage and Egg McMuffin in Canada is better than most of the breakfasts I've had in Thailand.

Real breakfast places here blows away anything I've tried in Thailand.

That American style Bacon is a show stopper, smokey and salty flavour just makes the meal.  Mouth is watering just looking at it.

So where can I get a good N.A breakfast in Pattaya?

Also Irish Rovers, Continental Bakery, Cafe Pittini to name a few.

Just remember, it will never be exactly the same way as the U.S.

Continental Bakery and Golf Club are 2 of my favourites around LK.

I stayed near LK Metro last trip and didn't see The Golf Club or Continental Bakery...

This trip I'll be on Soi 14 near WS but I'll get on a Baht Bus for a good breakfast.

Where is Irish Rovers and Pittini?

I know, portion size is around 1/2 in Thailand along with the other differences.

IMO For American Breakfast I would put Tigglebitties as #1 followed closely by The Golf Club. Tigglebitties has the advantage of lots of seating and parking available.

the golf club is in LK Metro, the section that links with buakaow.

continental bakery is just off soi chairypoon. oasis agogo is on the corner of buakaow/chairypoon turn left at the triangle bar and continental comes up a few steps right side

irish rovers/i rovers is in the angle of LK Metro L.

cafe pitini is north along buakaow left hand side by soi 21.

Last September I had the American breakfast at Smokin Joe's on Lengee a couple times.  Quite good.

I'll cross off i-rovers right now if this is their choice at breakfast:

That oiled toast, hockey puck thing, boiled tomato will go in the garbage right away.  The ham/bacon is edible but it's not like American or Canadian bacon at all, not much taste.  I won't comment on the sausage as they are hit or miss, I'd guess it to be like a bratwurst type up there.  Most I've had have been poor, I'm used to pork breakfast links here.

I've had a chorizo type sausage in a breakfast before, but it's not that common.

Secrets  on Soi 14 has a good American breakfast.  Father afield,  you have Smokin' Joes and Golf Club. Tigglebitties is great, but you'd need to take a moto or Grab to get there unless you don't mind walking for 30 minutes.  Richman, Poorman in Jomtien is excellent, too, but it is a long haul by baht bus for breakfast.

if you want a reasonably priced breakfast buffet, try Casa Pascal just off 2nd Road near The Avenue.  It's an easy walk from WS Soi 14 and they have a grill station where they cook your eggs and breakfast meats to order for 265 baht net.  It also has a top selection of fresh bread and plenty of non-breakfast stuff on the buffet.

As you noted, it's the quality of the streaky bacon that's the key to a good American breakfast and all of the above have good streaky bacon.

They have an American breakfast also.  Eggs, toast, decent pancakes with maple syrup, bacon.  I order all bacon instead of the hotdogs.

Golf club has excellent waffles too.

Two of the best breakfasts I've had in Thailand were both in Bangkok - one at the Majestic Suites hotel just around the corner from Soi 4 - rooms are $40 a night, they're guest friendly and the breakfast I had - Eggs Sunny side up, toast, and bacon with coffee always tasted great (I always pass on the potatoes).

The other is the Mövenpick hotel over on Soi 15 - the absolute best breakfast buffet I've ever seen, with a cook who'll make omelets for you any way you like, and the biggest selection of food to eat I've ever seen - one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at as well. But a bit more pricey.

I walked from my small hotel in Pattaya on Beach Road near Soi 6, north to a larger hotel to have breakfast one morning, but I can't remember what hotel it was... it was a breakfast buffet, with American style food... wasn't great, but wasn't bad... just can't remember where I went.

You can blame the Brits for a lot of things but please dont blame us for those hot dog sausages. They are entirely a Thai delight, vaguely based on the US version, and are truly disgusting. You would never get these in the UK unless you had ordered a hotdog or cocktail sausages and even then the UK ones would have real meat in and not whatever they put in them here.

The bacon you get in some breakfast places here isn't bacon at all: it's sliced pork loin. Why? Because it's cheaper and looks a bit like back bacon.

As for the hockey puck, that's black pudding and is nice enough once you have acquired the taste for it.

For what it's worth, some of the very worst breakfasts I have ever eaten were in hotels in the USA. Even at 100+USD a night they often produce the most god-awful Liquid eggs, "sausage" that doesnt even look like sausages (they are patties), chewy scones they call "biscuits" and "gravy" that appears to be made out of flour and water only. Utterly revolting.

Everybody has their own tastes/preferences, but in I-Rovers defence you can get some hash browns substituted for the "hockey puck" if you ask for no extra charge.  Maybe because I like sports that seem to play that time of day when person needs breakfast, but think there good value in the I-rovers breakfast.  I eat very well and too much in Canada, but there are so many things better/cheaper in Thailand that really do not crave Cdn style breakfast too much and I am in Thailand for long time.  Steaks and Pizza would be things that I do fill up on before leaving Canada/getting back there.

I agree the traditional English Breakfast and Fry Up are nauseating to me also....

Some good suggestions here.... Pittini on Soi Buakhau is very good as is Bake n Brew on Soi Excyte closer to 3rd Road.

I have eaten at the Golf Club but that photo above shows bacon that looks like it was deep fried. Note the curly appearance.... a tell tale sign that the cook is a hack.

Lately I stay in a condo in Pattaya , so rarely go out for breakfast .

In Bangkok around Soi Nana I have found that the Dynasty Inn next to Nana Plaza does a very decent basic American breakfast.... eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, juice for around 120B .... at that price you can always order 2 if you're hungry.

The Tavern also does a fine breakfast and usually some interesting and friendly customers to pass the time.  I particularly like the free refills of coffee. Gai is a sweetheart.

I am not ting tong...my mother had me tested.

American restaurant,

This should be exactly what you are looking for

Doesn't sound very close to me.  Would a Baht Bus go there?

I prefer to grill up my own steak at home and not pay the $30-$40 price at a steakhouse.  Last time I was at The Keg, I was out over $50 and the steak had gristle running through it.  It was gross.

A specialty breakfast place (seems like it's a trend here) you can get in an out for $10 (250b equivalent) routinely with a great breakfast.

Someone posted that I-Rovers had an American style breakfast after I picked apart the English one.

I'll probably be looking for something that's walking distance from Soi 14 anyway.

Secrets Bar is located on Soi 14 and has a good American breakfast.  Some people like the American breakfast at the Pattaya Beer Garden at the start of Walking Street.  Casa Pascal, an easy walk from Soi 14, has an excellent breakfast buffet.

I'd suggest that no one in the US (or anywhere else) hoping for cardiac longevity eats biscuits and gravy often or at all, despite how tasty they  may be at the time. Think of them as perverse "comfort food" appealing to few. Ha Ha. That they are more popular in the American South should surprise no one but having Commonwealth roots? OMG.

Bummer, I've had many a good steak at a Keg restaurant and miss not being around one.  If there was one nearby I'd go tomorrow.

Of course having a multitude of ethnic food choices no doubt more than makes up for no Keg bit I still miss it.
