Rum in Pattaya?

Rumbo

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

I have a simple and a stupid question. I read very much about beer bars in this forum. I will be first time in Pattaya on january 11 and I like to drink rum. This is the result from my travels to the caribean sea. I prefer "Havanna Club".

What kind of rum is posibel in the beer bars and how much it cost?

Thanks for the answers.

I'm not a rum drinker but doubt if you will find anything better than Bacardi at the bars and that will cost B100 up. They do make many types of local inexpensive rum as sugar cane is prevalent and if you mix it with fruit juice hard to tell the difference

I don't look for Rum, so no real idea, I just know I see Bacardi at all the bars as premium rum.

Sangsom is technically a rum. Thai whiskey made from sugar cane and you should be able to find it in every bar for cheap. I don't know about Havana Club though.

You will see Bacardi in most of the beer bars. The bigger places and gogo's may have a better choice. A few of the places will also stock Bundy (Aussie Rum). NLD1 is one of them.

Yeah, you'd probably have a hard time finding Havana Club in most beer bars, you can definitely find it at clubs and certain go-gos. Also though, if you really like beer bars, you can definitely buy Havana Club at the supermarket and liquor stores here, around 1,000 baht, and most beer bars are so casual you can bring your own better bottle of whatever it may be if you offer to share it with the girls and the mamasan. It probably depends somewhat on the bar but I've seen this now and then with guys bringing bottles of different things a certain bar may not have on stock, and it's always been pretty welcomed from what I've seen. If you do, do try and pay for other things though while there out of respect, buy mama drinks maybe, have the girls make you mixed drinks with cokes so you can pay for that, whatever, just spend something, out of respect so you're not a bum. The girls and mamasan's at most small beer bars would likely be more than happy to drink your Havana Club with you though, especially if it's a slow night :)

Rum drinker here. Stick to Sangsom. It is a decent enough drink with a mixer like coke. Have found Captain Morgans in a few places but most have bacardi. But depending on the place, all imported booze is subject to being a knock off.

Sangsom is cheap and not worth the effort to make a knock off of.

bolly

What... service... may I do you? Hmmm? You know I demand payment.--- I brought payment. Look! BAM!! An undead monkey! Top that!

I generally drink only beer or vodka but I really like sangsom. It mixes well with coke zero and as a bonus is pretty cheap.

Thank you guys,

at first I will taste the sangsom. When it is good my probelm is finish.

When I don't like it I will buy a botle, bring it to the bar and will drink it with the girls and mamasan. Yes it is OK, that I buy drinks for the girls when I drink my own. In Germany we say to this life and let life.

Thanks for the Informations.

Have to agree. Sangsom and whatever coke you like is pretty good. If you add a twist of lime to it you will be pleasantly surprised as it adds a nice tropicl flavour. Not sure I would walk into a bar that did not know me with a bottle right off the bat. You probably will get away with it, but would not really be polite.

I would suggest finding a bar you wanted to stay at and then asking for someone to go and get you a bottle of Sangsom from the bar if they did not have it in stock. This is an easy procedure and will have the added benefit of including yourself into the bar and you should have no problems. Also you will be able to scout around for the bar with the mst compatible ladies for you prior to showing up with a bottle. There used to be a cheap version of Sangsom and a more expensive "premier" version. I have not seen the premier version in a while. Perhaps others on the site have it was only 20 or 40 baht more than the cheaper bottle and well worth it.

You can also try "Mekhong" which is called whisky but is actually Rum as its made from 95% sugar cane/molasses and 5% rice.

Also, once you buy the small bottle you can always leave it at the bar and come back the next day or later and continue to drink it. They will place a level mark on the bottle with your name on it. When u come back you only need to pay for mixers.

Its cheap and affordable.

Sangsom is slightly stronger with 40% alcohol compared to Mekhong which is 35%. Both made by the same company.
