FIRE !.

i've been meaning to post this warning for years.

now is the right time.

i love peppermint agogo, i also like marine disco.

for 10 years ive been going there.

7 years ago there was a small electrical fire in the escalaters there. it was put out. no drama.

3 years ago there was a medium fire in the nana plaza escalater. it was quite nasty, but they put it out and no one died. bars got burnt out though, exit points everywhere.

BACK TO THE POINT OF THIS TOPIC.

i made a point of sussing out the exits in peppermint and marine when i saw a bit of a "sparking" in the escalaters which frequently break down about a year ago.

do you know what i found ?.

smoked at best, burnt at worst. depends on your preferred method of dying.

not a nice time to post this but i've wanted to for years.

plenty of joints in pattaya are just as big fire traps but those escalaters are scary shit knowing mr thai mans attitude towards maintenence.

do you check for fire exits everywhere you go in Aussie and Thailand and anywhere else slapman?. not just peppermint or disco?

I seem to remember a fire in Pattaya nightclub in 2006 or 2007 that got a few dead?. AWFUL!!!!

Just wondering cause if your that paranoid you should be checking out fire exits in cinemas/bowling alleys/bus stations/ tube stations....in fact every building you enter cause there has been tragidies involving fires in all sorts of situations.

I Take nothing away from the real tragidy today but shit really does happen...

I was in London when Kings cross Tube flared up and me girlfriend normally caught the tube at the exact time the tragidy occured. Luckily she got held back at work so for some miracal avoided that tragidy.

I saw a lot of smoke coming from a building in WS last night -- there was definitely a fire there but i didn't hang around to see the outcome.

Santika Club at Ekamai was on fire last night during the NY celebrations - early reports have at least 50 injured, and up to 50 dead.

The lack of fire exits is an issue that most of the buildings in Walking St need to deal with. :GrinNod1:

We saw trucks and police with fire extinguishers rush up Walking St at around 230am! Maybe it was connected with the fucking idiots who were letting fireworks off in the middle of Walking /st! :Drunk_Party: The thing that pissed me off though too be honest is the fact that the farang and thai tourist police were nowhere too be seen where as IMO they should have been stopping the fireworks etc but surprise surprise as soon as the thai guy in the Beetle convertible needed to drive through Walking st they magically appeared to escort him through. :WTF1:

Getting killed in a Fire is my greatest fear about living in Thailand. The construction of buildings is so poor and slapped together and the wiring is the worst I have ever seen. I'm glad in my apartment building I live on the 2nd floor and could jump to the ground if I needed too. I never go to crowded clubs or anywhere where it's not clear how to get out quickly. Thai's are fun loving and sanook but when it comes to preventing and managing emergencies they just don't know what they are doing in my experience.

I believe that's how the fire started at Santika Club. Stupid farangs letting off firecrackers indoors, WTF!!

I just read that there are now a reported 60 people dead. A very sad start to the new year. RIP.

Us Brits Are regularly told to look at the fire escapes when in a hotel. And be awere of the Fire drill.

BUT when you are Pisst in a room with 1000s of people milling around in the Dark, What chance do you have.

Burning must be one of the worst Deaths, Hope there Budda Takes care of them .

It took me 40 minutes from soi 8 to marine plaza on new years due to these wankers and there fireworks. just opposite the white rose hotel there was a load of tourist police detaining people that had been placing fireworks in the middle of the road(how fucking dumb can you get on a busy night). 1 of the big fireworks had actually hit a baht bus :Who_Cares:

I don't know if it's as bad as paranoia, but it is a good idea to pay attention to fire exits and muster stations where ever you are. I work on a 400 passenger ferry(no cars thank God) and we do fire and evacuation drills every week. We are lucky to have a government that cares and the financing to pay for good equipment and procedures; in LOS you're on your own.

The one place that scares me more than most is Lucifer. If that place ever goes up there will be a hell of a lot more than 60 people killed. I don't let it kill my fun, but you can bet that I'm never too far from an exit either.

wow...i guess this just goes to prove my gut feeling about avoiding all the "high season" party times in pattaya and stick to the spring/summer/fall seasons when its much more laid back and less crowded...i HATE juvenille behavior by anyone...sounds like New Years and that other festival with the water toys are full of 25-50 year olds acting like they are 10...NO thanks!

I can't agree more. I tend to limit my time in Lucifers, I always feel trapped in there - felt it the first time I went in. Let's all hope there is never a fire in that building.
