Sorry to hear this mate. 30K is a lot of cash.

A few pointers. Maybe obvious to most. But not all.

Only use internet banking from your own PC.

Make sure your PC is upto date with patches and AV software. don't be a cheap charlie when it come to AV software.

Dont ever click on a link in any email. If they really need you they will write to you and you can visit the branch

Have a separate credit card for internet banking. Never use your deibt card or give bank details. A credit card is insured. Your debit card may not be.

You are insured through your bank and they will give you the money back.

If the bank says they will pay you back the cash then they will. As long as you've not knowingly given your details then i think you havent broke any terms and conditions u will be fine. I have been done a few times with fraud on bank accounts and on a credit card. I got every penny back in the end. I had to sign a few forms, but it was always fairly straight forward.

I suspect the bank will be doing everything it can to place the blame with the customer.

A couple of things that people using interner banking that should kept in mind. The first is that no bank will ever send you an email asking you to validate your login details. Never go to your bank via a link in an email sent to you by any one. Best bet is to have your internet banking in your favourites and only ever go to it via that link

I used to work for a credit union here in Australia in this exact area, and you can rest assured the post by yorkshirefarang is correct. If this occured due to spyware/malware such as a keylogger on your computer getting hold of your details, you have absolutely nothing to worry about - except for the inconvenience caused by the delay getting your cash back. In might take a month etc. If you're really inconvenienced financially, banks can usually help out with a bit of cash in the meantime.

What will be a good idea is to get professional advice on cleaning up your PC and some measures to prevent it from happening in the future. The main thing to do is stay away from untrustworthy websites. If you use your PC for banking, you can't also use it for visiting any porn site that happens to show up in google images etc, or installing cracks for pirated software.

Don't worry too much about it. So long as you didn't give your account details to anyone intentionally, you are guaranteed to get your money back. Too many people out there have no idea when it comes to computer security that this happens literally every day to hundreds of people. It seems like a big deal but just relax, the money is always refunded when this happens.

I dont think its about blame. You dont have to prove the bank was at fault. They will have a quick look at the situation. If they think you are trying to screw them they will investigate the case big time. If they think its a mistake and you are not attempting fraud u'll be ok.

dont worry. if you've done nothing wrong that means no evidence. Therefore problem sorted & money back.
