Cook it Yourself Seafood Buffet on Jomtien Beach Road

We tried something a little different last night, at least it was different for me. It was fun and all had a good time. I am also not wild about the place and will not be a frequent visitor. Still it was interesting, so I thought I would pass it on. We went about 6 PM. I suggest going a little later, if you decide to give it a try. The flies just before sundown were a bit of a pain for a while, but dissipated as the sun went down.

The buffet costs 400 baht per person. They provide some grills with hot coals at the table. You pick out your seafood and cook it yourself at the table. You can get as much as you want and go back for more as often as you want. They had a full range of seafood, some pork, fried rice, tom yom, salads, fruit, and desserts. Non-alcoholic beverages are included as well. I saw some bottles of beer, but not sure as to the deal on that.

The place has no sign with English phonetics. Here is the sign in Thai. It's located about 200 M North of Pupen's.

Sounds good. Thanks for the tip.  I think a Thai girl offering the elusive gfe would love to cook up a feast here.  Will give it a try.......arriving early April...yippee.

I guess I don't understand the appeal of these kinds of places.  Why would I want to cook my own food at a restaurants and pay the same price as I would at a place that does it for me?  If I'm paying, they're cooking.

If you want a better experience with your "date"... read, learn, live the following:

Same as in any buffet I suppose: because you can get exactly what you want exactly how you want and exactly when you want. I dont like regular restaurants very much because you have to order by the plate and have to get it how they want to cook it. I would much rather be able to taste 30 different things that I can select small portions of myself.

The cooking part is not very important for me, but I dont think that you could get the same variety at a plated restaurant for 400B.

Similar to Amporn Seafood on 3rd Road which is 399 baht per person.

Also Ninja on Jomtien 2nd Road, which must be quite close to the one described in this thread.

For me the main differences of this one seem to be the sea view and the drinks being included. Most other moo gata places charge for drinks and ice and anything else that they can nickel and dime you out of.

You could not eat unlimited seafood with someone cooking it for you, for 399 baht, in any restaurant I know.

I think these mookatas are great, and the thai girls love them. All you can eat for 199 or 399 seafood.  I enjoy cooking myself, it's fun.  The 'elf and safety guys in the West would have a fit, imagine letting people anywhere near hot coals.

I’m a big fan of these Korean Thai style bbqs. I’ll be checking out the ones near Hollywood disco as well on my next trip...

edit:one of my mates hates this style of restaurant, sad because the atmosphere is very conducive to socialise and great for double dates, (I know the girls aren’t really girlfriends)

Stuff similar to this exists in the west. More commonly with cook your own steak type places, but I have seen Korean BBQ places too.

I agree that the ingredients shown in the photos look somewhat more expensive than the ones you generally find in these places.

It would be worth trying just for the sea view/breeze and the included drinks etc., so any extra food quality for the same price would be another bonus.

OK water and low grade fruit juice are provided but beer is around the 100-120 for big bottle chang/ leo.

i did not find it cheap, the salmon would have been chucked out in oz, the crabs did not appeal although TGs munch them up, that sort of little clawless lobster (horseshoe something) was okish, as were the green mussels but mostly it was prawns and a 200 baht dish of them and rice at many market type places would be my preference.

The charcoal burner was too hot, smoke blew, things burnt etc.

Thais love this sort of group eating experience but I will stick to the 200 baht meaty ones (like back of Rompo) especially as undoubtedly the richest, ugliest, oldest and least humourous at the table I am likely to be given the honour of getting the bill.

Good review and photos OP, it is just a bit short of Poopen the deteriorating big seafood restaurant with the fibreglass crab.

You get to sit on a plastic chair, inhale charcoal fumes and enjoy the radiant heat while your swatting flies, al fresco but if you go later, the flies aren't so bad.

I do enjoy having the girl cook for me at the table at the one behind Rompho Complex. They girls love it too and can put away a ploughman's share of food.
