Flight tickets question

My query is can you have 2 tickets  in use at the same time.

Hopefully my girlfriend and daughter will be coming to the UK next March.

 

I

will be flying to Bangkok then flying back to the UK with them, also on return journey  September going back to Bangkok with them

Can i book with 2 different airlines, the plan was to book with Etihad for my flights starting in the UK, then book with BA  for the 3 of us to travel together from Bangkok.

My immigration card would have different flight codes on entry.
