Should I use a letting agent?

Hi

Im buying a new house to move into and thinking whether to rent my existing house or sell it (once Ive bought the new property) to pay off the mortgage on the new place. I have 2 questions:

1) If I do rent my house, are there big benefits to using a letting agent, or should I try and advertise myself? (because of my location it will be quite easy to find a tenant).

2) What sort of fees would a letting agent charge and is it worth 'shopping around'?
