Google translate is pretty good for individual words, there are lots of lessons on Youtube to learn sentences.

I learned the script from a small book that came with the original 'Linguaphone' book/cassette tape course I bout in 1988.

 

I'm pretty sure that they have re-issued it in CD or maybe sound file format. The book totally ignores the Thai names for the letters which can actually be a distraction early on. It's the easiest book to learn the script I have ever seen.

As stated in this post by others I also think one of the many smart phone apps would be of great use the ones with the ability for the user to tap on the word or a sentence is very good as you can hear how to pronounce the words.

And if necessary just let the person you are trying to communicate with hear it.

I find “English phonetics” a very weird expression as English is, by far, the least “phonetic” of all Western languages.

Many Thai girls pronounce wrong, especially the /r/.

I know a bar called Mai Lu Si.

That should be ไม่รู้ซิ /mai roo si/ (I do not know).

I thought I made it quite clear that สมัน was in reference to a European Elk.

BTW the reason I included it was that it is what came up in a Thai Dictionary search for 'Moose'
