BARREL OF OIL $49

Oil is now $49 a barrel, a huge fall since July $147 a barrel... I reckon the flights prices will come down too , not now, maybe in Jan/feb... I,m booking to fly out next July but I wont book now which I usually do, I will wait til Jan/Feb...

They have already dropped slightly, but I'm not expecting a 2/3 drop along the lines of the oil prices. The airlines have already said they will use the difference in oil prices to make up for the loss they suffered while oil was 120+.

OH go on I hope they drop. Im hopefully going back out in march, will wait till jan/feb to book now.

I would expect some decent drops in the next couple of months, the overall world economy is not going to be turning around any time soon. Maybe mid year in 09', at the earliest. The airlines still need to fill those seats regardless of what happened in the past. If one airline drops the prices then the competitiors quickly follow. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see prices 10 to 20% less by Jan/Feb next year.

A lot of airlines secured deals at a partticular rate a few months back. So they may not all change their prices.

Dont think so. Lots of planes are half empty due to Global credits crunch... They had secured months ago for this year.... Not next year... Fresh deal comes after Jan/Feb....

I am no financial expert but will it not take a lot more than the price of a flight coming down to make more people come because the price of everything else at home???

Airlines have started to remove the fuel surcharges so the price of flights have already started to drop. I wouldn't expect them to drop too much.

tax drops would make a huge difference... although i doubt that will be top of the list come mondays budget announcements (although a tax rebate would be nice, but i would spend it in thailand not the UK)

governments are going to destroy theairline industry with more taxes ,the lower the fule pirce comes down the higher the wil put up the taxes .Fuel prices have dropped over 50% but as the pound has dropped over 25% it is not as noticable as some other countries .

The drop in fuel prices wont effect the uk to much as oil is bought in dollars and sterling is doing shite the dollar.

I am on the same time frame and will also be booking around Jan. Checking the flights on Kayak every other day, just in case.

US domestic air carriers are still charging for the extra check bag and there is no sign that this policy will change any time soon. With aviation fuel costs dropping one would think that they would revisit this issue but definitely not until after the Christmas holidays. It's all about the profit margin!
