Krabi was always a good place for sexual assault. Nobody talks about it, but the news are full of incidents. Now an American tourist fleeing attempt to molest her fell 45 metres from a cliff at Ao Railay bay in Krabi Thursday night and was seriously injured. the result: 5 years in prison because the offender confessed.

American tourist fractures her back after plunging off a cliff to escape sex attack in Thailand: report

A 23-YEAR-OLD American woman says she fractured her back falling 45m down a cliff in Thailand during a desperate attempt to flee from a sex attacker, according to a report.

The New York Post reports Hannah Gavios got lost at Railay Beach in the resort of Krabi on September 1 — a day after arriving in the country — and sought help at a local tourist shop.

A worker at the store offered to help her get back to her hotel but instead led her up a pitch-black mountain in the Jungle, where he attacked her.

“I really thought I was going to die,” the New York woman said, according to The Daily Mail. “It was dark around 11pm and the only way to get back to my accommodation was by crossing the cliffs.”

Apparently there are more cases of sexual assault in Thailand I have thought:

About 80 sex-abuse cases reported daily in Thailand

Women and children reported sexual abuse or sought counselling at a daily rate of 87 last year - with most offenders close to the victim, according to a Public Health Ministry counselling service. The information was revealed at a Bangkok seminar yesterday.

A child and a woman were violated every 15 minutes, said Suphensri Phuengkhoksoong, a senior official at the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, said there were 31,866 cases last year, though not all were reported to the centre.

She said 261 people received counselling from the 358 cases pursued by the centre for legal, social or psychiatric reasons.
