I bought some good software From Innovative Language Learning to learn Thai. It gives you everyday ten new words, you have to learn, you learn to read them, you learn to speak them (there are pronounced by a nice lady on the iPhone). And everyday 10 new words is not terrible as effort, but after one year , you should be able to know 3650 words.

Does it show the words in...English...Phoenetics...Thai ?

 

I find the phoenetics useful.

It shows the english translation, and the Thai written version (no phonetic) to make you exercise,

 

But for learning, you can request for each word the phonetic way, and ask to read it aloud by a lovely lady. So you learn which pitch you have to use

 

Further you can bookmarks the words you think you will probably use it, so you can search those in your favorites list.

 

Personally I find it grat, because you learn all the aspects.

Oh by the way, on their website, you can find some good screen dumps of the application on the iPhone, but be carefull, it is a screendump of the chinese version.

Oh, Here two screendumps in Thai, first one is an example of the 10 words you learn everyday. The second screen is what you get when you ask extra info about a given word.

Thanks for the information ....I think I will try and find a version with phonetics...I find it easier to make the words stick in my head.

I use this app all the time. Its free and very useful esp. if you cant write thai.

"ipood Thai" is my favorite Thai app for the iPhone. I use this phrasebook with Pimsleur Thai. I think the Pimsleur is good for sentence structure and ipood Thai is good for building vocabulary.
