A lot of times on my trip I hear what sounds like "a lie" a girl says this usually when she does not understand what I said in English. From my understanding this mean what. Am I correct or does it mean something else. Again It sounds like they are saying A-lie (the a is not the letter a but the sound the a makes ).

Thank you so much, That makes sense as the r and l sounds so similar. It's pronounced a-ra-ye? Or will it sound like a-lie?
