Be careful: "Discount Leisure Club"

I recently got a call from the "Discount Leisure Club," who stated it was a promotional partner with my credit card. I decided to do it, in order to get benefits for travelling to places such as Thailand, and others.

In order to induce me to join their club (at $29.99 USD per month) they offered a 2-night stay at Las Vegas, Nevada. Since the company was a promotional partner with my credit card, I thought it had gone through some quality-control vetting by the credit card company. Many companies will only allow good companies with good promotions to be affiliated with them.

I don't know whether my credit card did vet these guys (I will find out). But learn from my error and be very careful before agreeing to this deal. For example, the Las Vegas trip is at a third-tier hotel called the Golden Nugget, one I wouldn't pay my own money to stay at. Further, in order to take ths deal you must listen to a time-share presentation (for those of you who don't know what that is, a timeshare presentation is a presentation, usually lasting about 1 - 3 hours trying to persuade you to buy interest in real estate in Las Vegas or elsewhere, so you can stay in that property at fixed times during the year).

Also, the club was running a sister promotion by the "Discount Savings Club," which offered $50 USD in free gas vouchers. Based on my experience with similar promotions, I was envisioning a credit-card gas vouchers. That's not the case - instead you must send in your receipt for gas and wait 6-8 weeks for a rebate. The thing is each month you are limited to $5. In other words, the club makes it too much of a hassle to take advantage of ths program.

Note that other people might appreciate this program, and may be perfectly willing to sit through a 1-3 hour presentation about the joys of owning a hotel room in Las Vegas for 1 week in a year. For those people, I extend my good wishes. But for myself, and I suspect most others, this program was a scam.
