Note: this is not the same as the visa exempt program.

----

The fee is raised to 2,000 baht, up from 1,000 baht.

The new requirement will come to effect on Sept 27, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of Consular Affairs announced yesterday.

The 19 countries and territories are Andorra, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

The cabinet approved the increase in the visa-on-arrival fee in January.

Foreigners from the 19 countries and territories are allowed to stay in Thailand for up to 15 days.

Of course it's total coincidence that the two fastest rising groups of tourists , India and specially China are among them ...  :WinkGrin1: .

Seems they want to get back all the money they lost from the bargaining

This might be a good strategy on their part.  It would lower the overall numbers but the ones that stay may be better spenders.  Instead of the large groups that only stay at the hotel, buffets and share drinks in the clubs they may get the ones that spread the cash around a bit more.

Unlikely. They will get the same numbers and effectively doubled their revenues. Tour groups absorb the extra fees.
