Visit during vegetarian festival?

Anyone ever been to Phuket during the vegetarian festival? Is it a good time to go or would you avoid? Definitely want to see a lot of the festival but also want to do other things. Are stores and restaurants closed? Are there still plenty of bar girls working? Any information would be appreciated.

I went and it was great. Most of the interesting festival activities occur in and around Phuket town, not by the beaches. So, make the effort to go into town and check out some of the events. Everything is open as usual, still plenty of gals in the usual places. Have fun!
