Since they no longer offer the 2 stamp visa for $80 dollars. and now only have the $200 6 month visa which is a bad deal imo the 60 day single entry or 90 day visa for $80. Even with an extention it still only covers 120 days and I'll be 8days overstay. I don't want the six month visa for 200 as you still have to leave after 60 days and return which makes no since but that's Thailand for you.. not sure how to cover those 8days and I already have my plane tickets purchased...

Enter on visa exempt (30 days, free).  This can be extended for 30 days (1900 baht).  Leave the country and get a 60 day visa in Laos or Phnom Penh (1000 baht),.  Extend this for 30 days (1900 baht) Total 150 days plus time in Laos or wherever.  Totals cost 4800 baht.  You are going to have to leave at some point.  

Alternatively do 2 visa exempt entries with 2 extensions (3800 baht)  and go to cambodia for 8 days in the middle.  Overstay is not worth the risk.

He may have trouble boarding plane with no visa and no onward travel within initial 30 days.

 

Best way get 60 day visa in home country extend by 30 days,cheap return flight to PP ,HCM ,etc get another 60 day visa there.
