is it all doom and gloom out there or are there any success stories from buying a condo.  myself , i have bought one in central pattaya , just off soi buakao with gym, cafe, bar , pool, jacuzzi , childs creche area etc etc etc.          i stupidly paid a lump sum and so am stuck with it,      it is due for completion in a few months ( CCR city centre residence by MATRIX )

It really depends on what your definition of successful is. I personally bought a few, sold a few and currently renting out the properties that I still own. I'm not planning to sell them because of two reasons.

1. Most likely I wouldn't be able to make a profit when selling them. Or maybe just a tiny profit.

2. The rental returns are just fine.

You can say I'm pleased with my buys because they do what I bought them for; which is providing me with rental income to live on here in Thailand.

Of course, If you're looking for something Liquid and/or price appreciation, Thai condos are the last thing you should be looking for.

I do the same live in one and rent out the others for income to live here in early retirement but i bought when prices were lower and the dollar high and if and when i sell if i break even i will be happy.

A child's creche area, in Pattaya? You're joking right. One of the reasons i came to Pattaya was to get away from other people's screaming kids. But yes my condo purchase is a success story, i love it and was lucky to buy when the Pound was 71.

i actually like a place where there is a family feel about it, i used to stay in marin place questhouse simply because it had a family atmosphere and staff looked after the kids well.  i have a daughter who goes to pattaya regular with me and her mum.

anyway good to see you bought at the right time.

  • 1 year later...

I done ok .Bought off plan at Park Lane ,Jomtien.Cost B1.2 M in Foreign name .The builder was Iguna ,later to be absorbed as part of Matrix .They completed on time .I rented it for nearly a year then sold it on to a Russian for B1.45 M . With various costs involved  ( i remember B90,000  for transfer ) i made little but at least there was no loss .

Quality of construction/DESIGN  seemed not great .The drain on the balcony blocked ,when it was unoccupied .Rain water flooded into the unit itself .( no lip on the door ,or any escape outlet ) .Lucky i visited and saw the problem and they fixed it .

Park Lane was hugely marketed as the B1M Condo .( it started from B1B  in Thai name ). I would never buy off plane again ever .Especially all the things i am now hearing about Matrix .The Condo itself was quite good though ,other than the flooding i mentioned .It was only 36 sqm ,but had a separate bedroom. It came completely furnished with one a/c and kitchen.Even had a LCD TV .I stayed there one month with the Wife and child .It was quiet then and clean .Not sure how things are now ?800 m from Jomtien beach .Quite a walk but i had a scooter .

I bough a great Condo IMO. Great price in a I would say Boutique Condo block in Jomtien. Nice rooftop pool low condo fees and the place is so well maintained.  Falang developer which is great as he keeps on top of keeping the place well.. Not a large amount of units so not too busy and nice rooftop pool. And a nice private garden.

I rent it out when I dont use it have had had no complaints . Located down in Jomtien but I like this area.

I am sure there a many stories like mine and no doubt the bad stories are there also
