Samran Saisam on 3rd Road

Yes, I am aware there is a rather lengthy thread about Samran Saisam elsewhere on the board (Samran สำราญ สายสาม), but it is mainly about it's role as a music club, so I decided to do a separate review of the food.

I finally made it to Samran Saisam Saturday night. It's a restaurant and live music venue on 3rd  Road roughly half-way between Pattaya Klang and Pattaya Nuea Roads. It is owned and run by the wife of BM Cerberus, who is best known for offering a different type of service and entertainment as the owner of the Devil's Den.  But make no mistake- Samran Saisam isn't a P4P establishment. There are no hostesses for bar fine, nor do freelancers gather there in the wee hours.

So if you're looking to find a lady for the night, Samran isn't a viable option. But it's a great place to take one or more TGs for a meal and Thai live music. And if you ever need to entertain the parents/family of a Thai wife or girlfriend, Samran would be an excellent choice. It's all about enjoying the food and music in relaxed surroundings, not P4P.

I was too lazy to take any exterior shots, so I'll lift two from Samran's FB page.  The rest of the pics in this report I took Saturday night.  Here's what you should be looking for as you drive down 3rd Road:

I had two Thai ladies with me and we got to Samran about 7.45 p.m.  The trip from the Avenue in a chartered baht bus took longer than I had expected due to heavy traffic along 2nd Road, Pattaya Klang and 3rd Road.  Cerberus was on hand to greet us warmly when we arrived.  He was having dinner with another well-known Pattaya bar owner.

My Source Coyote has been sharing meals with me since 2012 and I always leave it to her to order. But if you prefer to take a more pro-active approach, the extensive menu is clearly marked in both English and Thai, with pictures of each dish.

My companion favors seafood and shrimp in particular.

I'm a big fan of hot and sour seafood soup (tom yum talay) and so is MSC.

Both of us are also fans of salmon sashimi:

My contribution to the meal was the Thai-style fried chicken:

That's quite a bit of food but the three of us were hungry and did justice to it.  The total bill was 1,621 baht, with about 1,350 baht for the food and the rest for beverages.  I had a large bottle of Singha at 130 baht and ladies had soft drinks and water.

To repeat, Samran Saisam is a great place to take Thai girls. Should you ever need a restaurant in which to entertain the parents or family of a Thai wife, this would be a great choice. Thai guests will love the food and music.   If you're tired of the indifferent or even rude service in farang-oriented restaurants, try Samran Saisam for something very different: attentive service in the traditional Thai style.

We got to Samran Saisam early in the evening, well before the live music started and other guests arrived.  I imagine arriving  anytime after 9.00 p.m. would allow you the full experience of food and music Thai-style.

All things considered, Samran Saisam gets a big post-9139-0-16223400-1456641832.jpg from me.

I'm always interested in seeing places off the beaten track...will keep this one in mind for my holiday in a few weeks if I find a LT I wouldn't mind taking to dinner

A very nice report as usual Evil.

I will give it a try in another 20 days when I am there ...I plan to tag along with some of the well known board members, who have already made plans to hit this spot when most of us are in town in March...

Always loved your reviews and pictures on food and most of them have been spot on, as I have followed your lead thru yours posts and have never been disappointed in almost all the places you reported ....

Cheers ....

We will be pleased to be of service, do remember though that Labanoon will be playing in concert at Samran on the 26th March

Samran is about, good food at a fair price and musical entertainment, the musicians are not so into their-selves that customers cannot join in. Last night we had a good mix of Thais and Farang and when one of the Farang shared the fact that he was a drummer and would love to have a chance of playing with the band, well we are about service so;

That salmon sashimi looks great (as does the rest of the food!), sorry if  missed it, but how much does a plate of that fresh salmon sashimi cost?

If I remember right, it was 300 baht.  Cerberus can correct me if I'm wrong.

Nothing to correct Evil you are right on the button as usual. Fresh Salmon is brought daily and is my late night snack if any is left by then. However if you like spicy as well you should ask for my lass to make you her salmon fusion, its not on the menu but everyone that has tasted it to date loved it.

You could have corrected my grammar, as I should have written, "If I remember right ... ."   I fixed it in my post.

The salmon sashimi was indeed fresh, which unfortunately can't be said of all Pattaya restaurants which have it on their menus.  Next time we will try the salmon fusion.  My companion is a big fan of the spiced-up Thai-style salmon tataki that you can get in some Japanese restaurants.  From Fuji:

Yet another excellent review, Evil. I always enjoy your reviews, one of the highlights of the forum. I am looking forward to a night out here, but I definitely won't be going alone!
