Tourist visa from the UK, through the post

Does anybody use this system? How long does it take?

If anybody has horror stories of passports going missing in the post, or similar then I'll drive to the consulate like normal. Just thought I'd ask as it's a pain in the arse going in person.

Send to the London consulate, special delivery, no problem

My Pattaya budget is perfectly adequate as long as I don't spend any of it

Probably better to use FedEx or any system that allows tracking of shipments

Scary to entrust a passport to regular mail lol

You drop it off at the Post Office with all the paperwork and purchase your Postal Order - it is sent Special Delivery

You enclose your own Special Delivery Pre Paid envelope for return - if you do not they will organise it for a few £'s more

So either way it will NEVER come back via normal mail

It works perfectly and takes 48 hours (if you pre-pay for the return) otherwise 72 hours maximum

Please note they are currently taking an extra day to return passport with visa inside

Example submit at Post Office on Monday - will arrive at your address Friday

You can track it online - so when you see it received by PO - then the following day before 13.00 you will receive it

I got my passport back 10 days ago, it took a week from dropping it off at the post office.

For some reason the special delivery wasn't a next working day drop, I sent it Saturday and it was signed for at the embassy on Tuesday the 8th, unless Saturdays don't count and it goes on Monday. So I guess you're right because it came back on the Friday.

All good, should be arriving in a couple of weeks.

They are cunts. Kept my passport for 1 month, caused me massive problems.

Incompetent useless retards.

Other than that they were ok.

To suppress and to protect criminal problems affecting international tourists.

To facilitate and to provide both Thai and international tourists with the security and protection of their interests.

I live reasonably near a Thai consulate so always go in person.

In London you have to drop off one day and collect the next - and within a certain time window - not really feasible in Central London

If you go to the London Embassy in person, can you get an O visa / tourist visa in a single visit?

No

It takes two visits

They don't answer the phone

They don't answer emails

They don't contact you if there is an issue

You don't know if they received the passport or it was lost

Royal Mail said it was delivered but could not show a signature

I had a flight booked to Thailand

I waited 1 month for them to finally email me back

USELESS TWATS

If I went for 40 days without getting a visa to stay more than 30, but intending to extend when I was there, would the airline kick up a fuss and possibly stop me flying? Some BM's have told me they would.

Thai consulate Birmingham 2 day turnaround, sent and received back by special delivery. No problems at all.

The airline could stop you, they might not but they could

I hope they're in an agreeable mood tomorrow when I check in at Brum airport with a one way ticket. I flew Air India  last time out and they never questioned anything. So fingers crossed!

The only time I've ever been questioned was with Thai Airways from Heathrow back in 2012, but they bought my story of only intending to spend 2 weeks in Bangkok before moving to Laos long term. I didn't have a visa flying out that time as well.

It seems a lot of people like to gamble.

I have been asked to provide proof of onward travel while checking in at LHR for an Etihad flight.

I've been looking at the form which I'll need to fill in for my visa to stay more than 30 days. Can anyone explain what I need to say/do to complete the following sections?

Evidence Substantiating your purpose of visit

FOR NON-IMMIGRANT OR LONG STAY ONLY

For departure travelling
