What it the easiest/cheapest way to get from Pattaya to Jomtien and back?

Motorbike rental is not an option.

To go TO Jomtien, the baht buses line up by the school at the junction of 2nd Road and South Pattaya Rd.

They won't go until VERY full - a bit like sardines! Only 10 baht to most of Jomtien.

Private hire is usually 150 baht.

To go FROM Jomtien just hail one down. 10 baht to anywhere on the route.

Do not board as suggested at the intersection. Walk 1 block south-toward Jomtien- and stop in front of an optometry shop. They  go by constantly with seats open and no waiting for the songtaew to fill before you leave as suggested.

Where's the shop I didn't see it

My Pattaya budget is perfectly adequate as long as I don't spend any of it

Just past a small alley at the end of the field/school. Unless it's closed. The 2-3 girls working inside wear nice pink outfits. Even if it's closed, just walk 1 block south of the intersection that was mentioned earlier and hail a songtaew there. There is no need to wait until 1 fills up to go. Just wasting time. I learned when I lived in Jomtien.

I've always walked up the road 100m or so too, rather than wait at the corner

I used to walk past the queue on the corner and get a bus as mentioned and sometimes still do. But a couple of times last trip I waited a while before one with space came along. The buses on the corner usually fill up quick. If I can get on one in a hurry I stand in the back to avoid being a sardine.
