Transferring Attachments from Gmail to iPad Photos... Damn!

I have a lot of photos that are now attachments to a Gmail post. I open my iPad, open Gmail within iPad, tap a photo, in the upper right of my iPad Air a rectangle with an upward pointing arrow appears. Tap that, and a menu appears, 2 of the choices are "copy," and "save image."

 

I want to transfer the pics from being Gmail attachments to "Photos," in my iPad. I've done this before, it was easy, I believe tapping "Save Image" from Gmail was all I had to do.

 

But I'm doing this exact thing now, and sometimes a pic is transferred, most times not.

 

Damn! Anybody got a clue as how to solve this problem??

I have my gmail account setup as my mail account on my ipad. When I open my mail I just hold my finger on the first photo and a menu pops up saying save image or save x images (x being the total number of images in tne email).
