Emirates to provide sixth daily A380 service to Australia, second to Singapore

Emirates has announced a further increase to its global capacity with its sixth daily A380 service to Australia and second daily service to Singapore.

The airline is ramping up its current Dubai to Melbourne via Singapore service, on which a Boeing 777-300ER is currently used.

The new service will start from March 1 and will be Emirates’ second daily A380 flight to Melbourne.

The Dubai carrier said in a statement that Australia will become its third largest A380 destination, with flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.

The United Kingdom is its busiest A380 route, with nine daily flights, followed by the United States.

“Emirates’ daily service between Dubai and Melbourne, through Singapore has proven a popular choice among travellers and we’re pleased to be able to provide additional capacity on this route by up-gauging the aircraft to our flagship A380,” said Barry Brown, Emirates divisional senior vice president, commercial east.

The airline has been increasing its capacity to a number of destinations recently.

Last week it announced that it is to use an Airbus A380 on all of its eight daily London flights from January 1.

This will add 259 seats per day each way, according to an Emirates spokesperson, who said that the current capacity from Dubai to London is 3,677 seats and is set to rise to 3,936.

It added a third daily flight to Birmingham, while also adding Madrid to its daily A380 routes, adding 2,900 seats to the Spanish capital per week.

It also confirmed a new codeshare agreement with Thailand-based Bangkok Airways, adding a further 14 destinations including Koh Samui and Chiang Mai in Thailand.
