hi,although i am not back in town till october i hear on the grapevine that colins bar is up for sale.anyone got any info on it,i hope nee as recovered from her illness and all is well with colin.

I haven't heard anything. My wife is Nee's sister so I will chase this up today.

 

Colin and Nee have a house to live in if the business is sold but not sure Stan and Porn do.They own the shophouse freehold and in the early 2000s they were offered silly money for the bar. I couldn't see them getting anywhere near that kind of baht now.

OK here is the mail as I have been told:

 

Both Colin and Stan want to retire. The building including the bar is being sold freehold. The asking price is 15 million baht.

 

Please remember I am only the messenger and other than being a prick relation to one of the owners I have nothing to do with this business and it being for sale.

I am really sorry to hear they want to retire.  I kind of understand with Colin and his wife taking ill and Stan has been into his online gaming so much over the past years he really isn't into the daily running of the place.  Last trip I saw Pon (Stan's wife) and only one time saw Stan for about 5 minutes and he headed back upstairs.  He said his back has been bothering him for the past year.  They have lasted ten times longer than most other bars.  I wish them luck and I hope I get to see them when I come back into town sometime in the future.  Colin has been quite a good friend to me and I will miss seeing him in the evenings at the bar.  I hope they get paid well and retire locally.

I mainly drink in Palmers but I know Colin well and he is a very nice guy.

I will be in Pattaya in December for Christmas and New Year.  Hopefully I will still see Colin in Soi 13/4

Sorry only just seen post.Cheers is still open,same as before I went in a few times last visit (Jan 2016) no takers as yet for the bar. Colin still on the late shift,if you want to catch him 5.30/6pm till close except for Quiz nights that is.

Yes still there as is Stan and Porn. Nee passed away in May this year.

Colin and Stan have had Cheers up for sale for ages but are still there.
I did hear rumours that Palmers wouldn't be taking on a new lease when the current one expires but never did get it confirmed.

As stated above really, Cheers for sale no buyers as yet. Also heard Bob in palmers wants to call it a day ,when the current lease runs out,which maybe around March time not 100% sure.Can`t blame Bob he`s in his late seventies now,although he don`t look it. 

Asking price for cheers was 12mil freehold but may have changed.

Thank you for reporting this. That was my hangout back in 2001 and I have gone there many times eveey trip but the business kept getting slower. I hope Colin still comes by the Sugar Shack to visit with friends. This was expected but still sad to see close.

Stan and Porn are now living in Chiang Rai with Stan having some issue which is keeping him bed ridden and unable to walk at the moment. Colin is living in his house over on the darkside.

The bar has been sold but there is a problem about an extra unauthorised floor being added to the building which they are trying to sort out with the council. My wife doesn't think any money has exchanged hands yet due to this.

Hopefully Stan, Porn and Colin can live good lifes in retirement. 29 years in the bar industry in Pattaya is quite an achievement.

Thx to all who have contributed info about Cheers Bar , i asked the question recently what had happened to Stan and Colin on Stickman’s  Website which he kindly asked on his site yesterday. I spent many a night chatting with Colin and Stan, latterly  only really seeing Colin in the bar at night. Colin was very helpful with info when i first came to Pattaya in 1990 and always was good value having a few G and T’s with him. So sad to hear about Colin’s wife. If anyone  has an email address for Colin I would love to say hello to him.....Thx
