Great hotel. Service staff excellent, Daniel hotel manager & Yurgen resturant owner a couple of good blokes. Free internet in the room. Best part is the number of guests you bring is up to you, very guest friendly. They even have a private entrance to the hotel so you dont have to drag 3 or 4 girls thru the resturant. I guess the only downside for some would be no pool, but i dont go to bangkok to swim.

Here are some I took on my last trip.

If you open the wood blinds on the above pic, there was a nice view of a parking garage. :P

This really is a nice hotel that is tucked away.

I didn't get a pic with the lights off but there is a light that runs around the base of the bead that added a little atmosphere during the nightly activites.

Update 2009

I have just once again stayed at this small private and elegant hotel for a few days on the 2nd Bangkok leg of my May trip, and once again delighted by the quality and discretion of services.

This year is the 5th anniversary of Swiss Grottino and owner Daniel has been running a 3 nights for 2 promotion which I took advantage of. Normal rate is still 2100 nightly as previous years. Booking was easy by email and promptly organised. Swiss Grottino has 21 rooms above a restaurant entrance. It's in a totally nondescript side soi (Soi Wattana) off Soi 19 ( turn off Sukhunmvit at the huge Westin Hotel) and the quality of the establishment totally belies the rather dingy side street which can take you aback at night as it looks like you are walking nowhere at all. There are some small japanese restaurants in this soi which is a cul-de-sac.

Entrance is by key card thru a discreet private door off the street or via the Cave like entrance to the fine restaurant. Rooms are well finished with wooden shutters that completely block stray light when you wish, and have TV + DVD (movies available free), bathrobes, the biggest thickest towels you have ever seen, quality bathrooms with enclosed large shower and power shower heads. Guest robes are provided, cleaning is unobtrusive, a general 'do not disturb' level of discretion applies, and it is important to note that there is no reception or guest checking at all, so it's 'up to you' who you bring there, how many and how long etc.... The room has safe, a very well stocked fridge bar, seating, work tables and decor is simple and elegant in woods and cream walls. Lighting is dimmer controlled and the under bed lights make great atmosphere. I stayed several nights and had company all of whom were impressed by the interior, though the exterior walk down the soi can seem less than elegant. I usually say I am staying in an apartment which makes it easier to understand.

Location is superb for Soi Cowboy/Asoke, and not far to walk down Sukhumvit past nearby Robinson store to other areas like Soi 11, Thermae and so on.

One of the best aspects if you like a quality stay and have a thai companion on the more sophiisticated side who can enjoy quality european food is the superb restaurant menu with a range of high quality Swiss and European dishes, ranging from a whole range of swiss meat and cheese fondues/german sausage dishes to spaghettis, pasta, steaks and grills. My quite 'smart' companion here for two days was impressed highly with the food, chosing pepper sauce filet steak, and chicken breast in cream sauce and other dishes. Food is western quality restaurant level with matching presentation. Prices range from 190-390 ish per main dish with winelist. House wine is good quality and from 150bt a glass. A meal for two therefore is not 'cheap' and will be at least 750-950 plus, but this is the best quality food you will see outside of a 5 star hotel restaurant so if you want this level of living (which in contrast to Pattaya and street eating or 'McFood' places I often do) when in Bangkok you will enjoy this. There is no 'bar' as such but diners sit, chat and drink on the entrance terrace.

Daniel has many regular guests, of varied nationalities, obviously many austrian, swiss, german and the service is unobtrusive, simple and understated. Highly recommended for a quality private venue which offers a totally non corporate residency with a high quality room and restaurant. If you travel alone and like your indepence this can be a quality place to stay in a managed apartment manner without the intrusiveness of a brand hotel and the busy people traffic. Also family friendly and have seen several groups with well behaved children (obviously not British then...) in the restaurant. It's a very individualistic place.

I know the Swiss Grottino from it's beginning and like location, service and quality of rooms. But after some years it became just too expensive. There is no way I would pay the normal rate of 2100 Baht.

I took advantage of the promotion in May, for 1400 Baht a good place to stay. But when the rate goes up again...

This Swiss Grottino is a great place to stay if you enjoy privacy and if your you bar fine forgot her ID card. Rooms are comfortable and cover all the basics like big bed, refrig, free internet, light dimmer, safe, etc... The private entrance and no hassle seals the deal for me. There is no breakfast included. Short walk to Cowboy, Nana, BTS, and Sky Train.

Hi folks, where is the Grottino located? Is it easy to find first time. I am thinking of arriving late at night trying to get the taxi driver to it. Thanks.

From Sukhumvit turn into soi 19, about 150M into the soi turn left immediately before the mini mart. I have not stayed there for a long time but they did not have 24 reception (about 3 years ago).

Making your own party at the Swiss Grottino is optional, but highly recommended! Beer and whisky mandatory!

Here's another view of the couch area of the Swiss Grottino. It's a small area but okay for sitting, drinking, and chatting.
