Beware of Afterdarkasia.com - virus

Gentlemen. I logged onto Afterdarkasia.com this afternoon and, It screwed up my computer for the better part of an hour before I fixed the problem. I got a message saying I needed to download Windows Virus scan. The damn message wouldn't go away. It even wiped out my screensaver. I tried a bunch of different thing to fix the problem. Once I reset the port blocking rules in my antivirus program, everything was fine. Although, I'll have to reinstall The screensaver. This littles bug even changed my port blocking rules. Just be carefull about going to that site.

We appoligise for any problem you might have had. We just checked the site using

3 different computers (1 HP laptop and 2 MACS) using 3 different ISP's.. We incountered no problems whatsoever. We are in contact with our hosting company who will further check on the matter.

 

By any chance, did you use a search engine to find the site or did you type in the URL directly?

I used a link from another post on this site. I am now using my laptop as my fix did not work. My desktop with the problem now locks up with error messages and keeps restarting. It's going to my tech in the morning. I'll let you know what he finds.

I have just reviewed the index page of the site, I couldnt find any problems.

 

I do notice the site embeds a MP3, maybe you had a conflict. I dont have my headphones near my desk, so i am unsure about the MP3

That could have very well been the problem. It kept trying to load something.... All I wanted to do was get the magazine sent to my home....

I just had the same thing when I followed a link from the Pornstars in Pattaya thread to http://preetissecret.blogspot.com/search/label/CreamPieThais. My spyware said something was trying to change my registry. Just running a scan now to look for trouble but I did lose and had to resave my screen saver.

Intresting - so it wasn't just me then...

 

Here's what happened to me about 2 weeks ago.

 

I got the same problem , but from a different site. As I had a scheduled security scan due, I presumed this was it, until I noticed a "Now downloading Microsft Vista Virus Scan" message. Now as my security scan runs in the background AND I have XP, not Vista, I realised my PC was being attacked.

 

I tried to log-out normally, but the pop-up bastards kept coming at me again & again (times zillions), so I switched the power off & waited a few minutes before trying to boot-up.

 

My PC would not start, kept getting error messages in DOS saying not closed down properly last time. Do you want to restart in DOS? Fuck me, it's about 20 years since I last used DOS language... & I'm a techno-dipstick

 

Anyway, about 5 hours later & after much shouting at the screen (I know it doesn't make a difference, but I was so fucking annoyed - more at myself), I got my PC started in DOS Safe Mode - my screensaver also went south.

 

I've since done a full security scan, & an application that appeared to be an MP3 type thing that I hadn't noticed before was forcibly removed. PC now working fine again & screensaver restored.

I had a similar problem before, and I ended up Googling the name of the malware files that I could find. I found a step by step on how to remove this particular virus and it worked like a charm. My Norton Antivirus didn't stop it and couldn't find the problem after it started. The programs I ended up using were SmithFraudFix and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Took my computer in to my tech this morning. He called me about an hour ago saying " !" Seems this nasty little bug attacked my computer in a number of different ways. He's still working on the problem and should have it fixed in a few hours. I hope the owner/owners of Afterdarkasia.com can find this bug embedded in their site. I know it's not your fault guys. It happens once in a while. Some nerd somewhere gets his or her kicks out of screwing with other peoples computers. Maybe he or she should take a trip to Pattaya and get a new hobby

Many thanks the OP for alerting us. It turns out the company that we use for hosting, here in Pattaya, had THEIR systems infected with a virus. One would think that if you had a company that hosts many websites you would....Whats the use, this is Thailand.
