LK Renaissance (Soi Diana) let a mate of mine bring 2 back to the room without extra charge!

He was staying in the one bedroom suite though (2700 baht per night)! :D

Cheers

JOE

Many a day, shall we rest in the clay!

Most of them still have no joiners fee but the idea is catching on. A good strategy is to ask before you check-in, if it's quiet they will often back down to get your business even if they do normally charge. I've had it where you get charged on Internet bookings but not on cash ones.

If you book by Internet make sure that you book the room for 2 people. Some hotels are trying to get around this by asking for their names in advance though. This is an annoying development that i would love to see wiped out. It's basically a scam.

Quite a few guesthouses do not charge for one and some - like me - do not charge for two even. hotels often do charge. Similarly, most of the guesthouses in Soi Metro providing WIFI do not charge whereas hotels see it as another source of income.

Had this happen in BKK at the Royal Benja hotel.

On booking, I had to name the guest.

When it was time to take a new guest, that name did not match the registered name.

"500 baht please...you take non registered guest".

Pissed off.....I went to the Star hotel on soi 7/1 and got a ST room for 300 baht.

Never again will I stay at the Benja.

Good for mate, that's the only way that we'll stop the spread of this scam. They never used to charge joiners fees. To me it's obvious what it's about. It's all so the night staff to get a cut from the action. if we stand for it then before you knwo it more and more hotels will start charging and it will become the norm. I won't stay at any hotel that charges joiners fees out of principle.
