Thai Subtitles

I've searched on here and there is some info, I've also searched Google but with the same results.

 I download Thai srt subtitle files for movies but often they just wont show anything but gobbledegook.

 

 Does anyone have a simple walkthrough for changing the settings correctly to allow Thai subs? ( I use VLC Player) Or is there just a better free media player out there that will play the subs automatically without me fcuking about?

 

 I have already followed the limited advice from Google and find that some sub files work without issue and others simply don't, whatever I try to do. Maybe I'm downloading bad files?

 

 I'm no techie, anyone have some advice for me please?

i'm not sure but maybe you need to have the thai language pack installed in windows? i've no problems loading subtitles into vlc
