Snake hearts

Hello all,

I am re-visiting Thailand in Feb.

I would like to try eating a live snake heart followed by snake blood.

I understand this mainly happens in Vietnam but if anyone has any info for this in Bangkok or Pattaya I would be grateful.

Jordan.

Laos, they sell a whiskey there with a baby cobra in the bottle. Instructions say one capful a day for general health, and vitality.

You have cravings. Or is the reason for increasing the potency of activity, as is sometimes said?

I seen Dirty Sanchez (a welsh version of jackass) do it on their TV program,

And as a chef, I like to try anything that's different everywhere I go.
I have tried Goong Ten, dancing shrimp,

And Baak Bpet, duck beaks.

I just find it interesting and it makes for a weird story when I get home lol.

I reckon the snake heart is 50p size , that won't fill up your stomach for a day !!! In fact you might need 50 snakes hearts . :)

yarowat (china town) in bangkok used to have a couple of places , i tried it  20+ years ago , tanks full of different snakes but the cobra was the reptile of choice ,

they pick the snake out of the tank , slit it open , draining the blood into a glass , top it with  loa khao and milk a few drops of venom into the mixture  you then have to dink it , at the same time with a deft flick of the knife the snakes still beating heart is served up on a small plate to eat , the cobra is then completely skinned diced up thrown in a wok with garlic spring onions and ginger , tastes like chicken . I do remember a leaflet/sign in different languages advising not to drink if you had recently undergone dental surgery . i haven't thought about this in years until your post and brought a big smile to my face , i have a sister in law who lives near to yarowat will ask her to inquire if it still possible to do and if it is i will pm you the details . i do remember this was very popular with the old chinese guys . pre viagra ciallis days 555

Mixxer, thank you very much, glad it made you smile. It sounds great.
Look forward to hearing from you soon, if not I will take my chances on visiting Chinatown, I didn't see any there last time but worth another look.

''the cobra is then completely skinned diced up thrown in a wok with garlic spring onions and ginger , tastes like chicken''

I've eaten snake a couple of times, was a vile rubbery texture and nasty taste.....absolutely the polar opposite of chicken! Maybe different snakes, different tastes?

Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

I know one of the small "hole in the wall" places across the market on South road had snake on the menu before, will have a look in a couple of weeks to see if it's available.

.. I lived in Taipei in the 90's, where a trip to the famed 'Snake Alley' (Huaxi Street) was an obligatory routine when I hosted visitors.

.. snake blood and snake bile shots and raw, still beating snake hearts were the delicacies du jour .. writhing poisonous snakes (de-fanged) and blood everywhere .. quite atmospheric.

.. I did the homework .. the incidence of blood parasites across all species of snakes is quite high .. I recall it was something like 40+% .. presumably bile and hearts, too.

.. the shot of alcohol in the bloody mix is supposed to kill the parasites .. okay .. so, maybe .. nothing more than street lore by guys who worship rocks and mountains .. but, a biological certainty is that parasite eggs are far more durable than the parasites themselves.

.. that's all I needed to know.

.. none of my buddies, nor I, chose to partake .. as you, I enjoy spectacle dining and have eaten stuff that would make some pigs puke .. congealed duck blood (steamed), sea urchin sperm, several varieties of fried worms, water beetles, scorpions, live sushi (fish, shrimp), etc.

.. do your homework.
