Those big boat restaurant things out in the bay

Recommended Posts

Everytime I'm in Patts I always see those big boats out in the bay light up at night and watch small boats ferry people out to them. Some then set sail while others just stay moored. I'm assuming they are restaurants. Am I right??

Also if anyone's been out to them what are they like?? Worth a look or what??

Never been but would be interested in the responses you get. If it is any good may give it a try this year.

What a great topic. We've all seen them but, like you, I've never really thought to try them so I'd be very interested to read some feedback.

I've been to the Oriental Star, it is ok with descent food at a reasonable price. The entertainment is not bad. Mostly Russian dancers. All the hostesses are ladyboys so if you are into that you will love the place. Not a bad place to take a date to change up the activities a bit. Worth a visit once but for me I doubt I'll go back. Just make sure you go on a day that you are relatively sure it is not going to rain as the activities take place on the open air upper deck. You can also rent fishing gear and fish off the boat. I did not see anyone catch anything.

Yeah I would like to know too. Does anyone go out there?

While probably very interesting the first time, it does look gimmicky. You'd need to be feeling in a romantic mood, plus the sweetie of your choice, but that (and para-sailing) seem to be two things I always just watch others do when I am in town.

Great question, though!

Looked at the prices etc after a return from Koh Larn, seems a bit steep but you get what you pay for.

Never been out, but had planned to one night. However walking down Walking Street I got side tracked and never did get there :P

Its not easy getting there without getting dragged into a gogo :P

Wha's like us?

Thanks for the thread: I have always wondered what those big boats could be, especially as they do not move much...

I can not enjoy it (seafood allergy - and no, for those who could wonder, the allergy is only to "real" seafood, not the other one ;p ),

but it is good to learn what they are... :P:P

This guy went:

At the other end of Walking St near Bali Hai Pier, there are few people advertising seafood ..that you eat on the big boat. At first i thought it would be heavily priced but it was actually not too bad. They shuttle you to the big restaurant boat by a small boat. The prices were good, food was great, service was excellent and they also have a live dancing performance by the russians...quite entertaining.. The view from the boat was beautiful, too.

Will definiately go there again and i highly recommend it..A neat experience

Tried the Oriental Star in May. We were taken with a fancy trike down the pier, then with a speed boat to the restaurant. A nice chick was leading us upstairs and made sure we got a good table. Placing the orders wasn't easy, my buddy had some ideas that weren't on the menu. We told them, that we would like to have the apetizers first, then the main dish. Guess what happened...it all came together (imho this is a general problem in LOS). Had finished our meal in about 30 minutes since arrival and the staff was pretty pushy to get us out. Seemed to me they target russian tourists and want to have a high turnover. Food quality was mediocre, prices not above the well known Walking Street seafood restaurants. I will not return due to the lack of a relaxing atmosphere.

  • 1 month later...

I tried one of them in March with a friend and some girls. Food was good and not too pricey. I was most impressed with the service. A manager and two servers stood at our table the entire meal! My drink never got less than 3/4 full since they were literally refilling it every time i put my glass down. I would definitely go again.

Seems to me people are saying its a case of get taken there, order, eat and drink.........and then "f*ck off please"

Is there no facility to have a quiet drink or that after the meal? Or do they just organise a ride back to base as soon as they can get you to leave?

Wouldnt mind seeing pics FROM one of the boats, if anyone has some to share

Ok everyone,

Here are a few pics I took while going out for dinner on the Oriental Star restaurant boat. It was a "fun" experience for the four of us (things in life are what you make them!), Takit and I kept a couple of girls for the last few nights of our trip to los in Nov '07 (yes we broke monger rules...). We decide to go out for a bit of a romantic dinner, something other than "street meat".

The food was good, the atmosphere was relaxed, they had a three piece live band (one of the guys played the sax and was American, nice guy), it was a "fun" ordeal to get to the boat. First a tuk tuk ride down the pier, then a speed boat ride to the restaurant boat and then finally 4 flights of stairs to walk up to get to the restaurant deck (I don't recommend it for any of you older guys with ticker problems!!) The men's room was interesting, you pee into a wooden bucket affixed to the wall, I'm sure it runs directly into the ocean..... :P

Overall if you have a girl that you want to take out for a nice seafood dinner, it's a great place with a good view of Pattaya at night.

Here are the pics: (hope this works!)

My mate went to the Oriental Star and took 3 TG with him, total cost 4500B including drinks. Another nice place to eat is King Seafood on Walking Street, I too a girl there and we spend 3600B including 2 beers for me.

For this we got:

1 Whole Steamed Grouper in herbs and plum sauce

1 Whole Steamed Red Snapper in Lemon and Thyme

1 Whole Curried crab

Curried Clams

1 Large Sashimi set

BBQ Squid

Fried rice with chicken

Of course we didn't eat it all but it was my last night and I went a bit crazy!
