Saw this on another forum that i'm not a member of.

 

Wanting to work out a few names, as it's something I get asked by friends who want to know how to write their name in thai.

 

My name... Tom.

 

I think thats: ทอม

 

toby: โทบิ

 

peter: ผิมึ

 

please correct if wrong and add your own.

they seem to read ok, except peter: ผิมึ the last letter is mor maa

 

I'd like to know if its correct or not also?

No, Peter is totally wrong and would be better spelt ปีเตอร์.

oh yeah, I that was definately a typo on peter still wouldn't have got it right.

 

thanks for clearly that up หมอ.

 

thai chracters always look so much smaller than roman characters when typed out, difficult when trying to distinguish some of the vowels.

Almost no thai is able to pronounce my name (greg) either the english way or the french way. The (Gr) is not natural for them, and the final G is certainly not either, it become either glek or gwegi... I got really puzzled looks when I say my name usually, so if after a few try, the girl still looks like she have respiratory problems ;-), I go for my thai nickname (kai/gai = chicken). Muuuuuch more easy for them, and nice for me too, it is almost part of my holidays now ;-)

hahaha, oh yeh, I can't even say that it was a quick glance why I made a mistake as I read it a couple times

 

must have got it in my head from the start that mor maa was nhoo noo
