Jomtien Immigration - Re-Entry Permit

Recommended Posts

I have two 60 day Tourist Visas obtained through the Thai Embassy in Los Angeles and entered Thailand on September 2nd. I will leave Thailand October 7 and return October 16. I applied for a Re-Entry Permit in order not to lose the remaining days of my first 60 day visa when I leave on October 7. I was told by the lady that was working the desk that was processing the permits that I did not need a permit as my visa was good till October 30th. When I asked would I lose the remaining days of my first 60 day visa if I did not have a re-entry permit, she pointed again at my Ocober 30th stamp on my passport page and said I did not need to obtain the permit. I thanked her for her time and left without acquiring a re-entry permit. Did I receive wrong information from the Jomtien Immigration office and will now need to obtain a re-entry permit from the Bangkok airport when I fly out?

On a separate note, will I have to leave and re-enter the country to activate my second 60 day Tourist Visa?

All comments welcome.

I am assuming that you mean that you have a double entry tourist visa. These visa allows two stays each for up to 60 days. If you leave before the 60 days is up there is no way of using the remaining days on a subsequent entry. I do not believe that they can issue a re-entry visa on a tourist visa. When you come back you will use your second entry.

Re- entry permits generally only apply to "retirement visas" certainly not tourist visas.

I think they are also available to those on education visas and extensions of stay based on a marriage to a Thai.

No reentry for tourist visas.

I concur with all the responses.  Re-entry permist which cost 1000 baht and I think 3900 baht for mutiple re-entry are for long stay visas, not tourist visas.
