For those that speak Thai & have a TGF that speaks english

I have been dating a girl that speaks english pretty good, everytime I speak Thai, she asks me to say it in english, because she wants to learn english. Then I start speaking in english and she doesnt understand, so she asks for it in Thai.... urgghhh

 

I want to speak and listen to Thai, she wants to speak and listen to english!!!

 

What do we do? We are both very keen and spend hours teaching each other.

 

I said to her ok, i will speak in thai and she can speak in english...

 

then i said, i will say everything in thai first, then I can repeat it in english...

 

 

I haven't bothered with a girl for a while that speaks english, but i've found its a huge advantage, I am nowhere near fluent, so I am able to fill the gaps with english words, usually what i dont know in thai, she knows in english and vice versa.

 

Luckily we are both able to teach each other big words without looking at a dictionary, because we are both able to understand the description.

 

What I want to know, what do other couples do? I am dying to be fluent, so is she!

 

Other couples must be set in there way.

My previous gf had limited english and my thai is formative, we spent time with books.

 

The current has excellent english and my thai has suffered, being lazy its easier!

 

For them it is an international language that can be used, for us only useful within a small area.

Sh!t you have central thai, nth thai, ne thai/lao, eastern thai/khmer, sth thai, to learn, then the normal words, soft words, words reserved for monks/royalty etc.

 

they had years of crap english lessons some must have rubbed off.

I was sat in a bar once and there was a farang with his Thai girfriend and they were comunicating using there hands to make gestures. They weren't deff or anything. It was very funny to watch. He was telling her he liked the food by rubbing his belly and licking his lips. Then she was telling him she wanted to go to the market I think by walking her fingers on the table and making the shape of a ball. It was like watching pantomime.
