I normally take a load of condoms and some KY jelly so I can shag the gay flight attendants in the toilets for a few hours, it does make the flight seem shorter.

Sleep as much as possible.

I typically have a two leg, 11 1/2 hr followed by a 6 1/2 hr flight. Combine that with the fact that my flight usually leaves mid-afternoon and if I don't sleep I will be completely exhausted upon arrival.

This from the LA Times:

" Skip the coffee: Avoid dehydrating drinks such as coffee, tea, colas and alcohol. In the dry cabin air, such drinks can dehydrate you, making sleep even more difficult. Cabin pressure increases the effect of alcohol on your body. Instead, drink plenty of water, starting the day before you fly.

Accelerate your sleep: As the plane takes off, your body is subjected to increased G-forces. As a result you'll often feel drowsy as the aircraft races down the Runway. This is because of decreased oxygen in the cabin at that moment. If you're the sort of person who can fall asleep quickly, take advantage of this short time and try to get your body to retire before you reach altitude.

Listen to your iPod: Create a playlist with at least 20 songs that you find relaxing. Once you're on the plane and ready to catch those Z's, grab your iPod, select the playlist and hit play. Listening to music during sleep has been shown to help maintain normal blood pressure and good circulation throughout a long flight."

I've tried it a lot of different ways, but what works for me is eating very little, drinking adequate water and bringing an mp3 player with some soft thai music. A window seat is mandatory. Throw on a blanket, pop in the ear buds, bucket up over top everything and catch some zzz's.

You're there before you know it.

My sudoku book ( keeps me quiet for hours and sends me to sleep ) , bottle water ( get at high price after security checks ) , tablets ( especially since I always get the shits on a plane ) , ipod , and more tablets in case I need them . . :P

I will start carrying some condoms now in case I get the offer to join the mile high club . Anybody a member by the way ? :o

You can be on the right track and still get hit by a train .

You can bring a PSP, DS, laptop, books, etc but nothing can keep you entertained during that damn flight. Knock yourself out with some prescription sleeping pills (no OTC crap).

Late to this thread but on page one is link to pervious thread--this was discussed in detail before. Long flights are hard unless you go business class. I think I would have to ditto the above Sleeping pills. Best to try to sleep the whole way.

What... service... may I do you? Hmmm? You know I demand payment.--- I brought payment. Look! BAM!! An undead monkey! Top that!

As the plane takes off, your body is subjected to increased G-forces. As a result you'll often feel drowsy as the aircraft races down the runway. This is because of decreased oxygen in the cabin at that moment.

LA times is incorrect on this. The concentration of oxygen does not change.

Just so happens that I have done a fair about of studies on this.

The molecular oxygen count does go down as the pressure decreases with altitude, however, the concentration (percent of total volume) remain the same throughout the flight (20.95%). The instruments typically used for the testing are, however, adversely affected by pressure changes. Galvanic sensors are totally unusable with pressure changes and capillary pore fuel cell sensors suffer a transient errors in readings, meaning they are inaccurate during accent and decent. So if you use an oxygen detector for testing the atmosphere during takeoff the reading will indicate a drop in oxygen, but that is the fault of the monitor being used.

Just gets me when the darn new reporters report something they know nothing about and we are supposed to believe the .... especially whet the topic is something we know little about.

The only things I worry about taking are my passport, money, and a shitload of Condoms because the ones in Thailand suck. Bring some anal ease lube if you like that sort of thing. You can usually talk a girl into some pooper action if you can tell her it wont hurt!
