Koh Chang Top 5 activities

I am planning to spend 4 days next month in Koh Chang with a BG from Pattaya. This will be my first visit there, we both like the beach and swimming but my question is for those who have been what were your top day time activities or sites to see while there besides the beach. I am also planning on staying on White Sand Beach at KC Grande Resort so any comments on this hotel are also welcome.

I stayed at the same hotel on my last trip . I went in June and got rain on for 80% of the trip my LT just got her men so no swimming for her and she felt bad . So my trip was shitty a bit . But I still had a decent time by my self .

The elephant ride is awesome !( the LT loved it also )

The rest of my trip I just stay at the front beach hut and chilled out while the LT jerked me off all day while watching the water and eating fruit ...

Good time .

its BETTER to be PISSED OFF then PISSED ON!!!..

Try the curry crab or the crab fried rice is AWESOME. And I mean it some of the best I ever had in Thailand..awesome .

Oh . U are not going to see much mongers BGs holding hands there . A lot of normal family at the hotel .

its BETTER to be PISSED OFF then PISSED ON!!!..

Thanks for the info. I had heard it is more of a family place but no problem if its not a mongers hotel. The breakfast we will try but probably go out for dinner. Crab Curry sounds good.

Elephant ride is on the list. Hopefully May will not be too much rain.

Didn't stay at KC Grande but I've been many times to Koh Chang.

White sand beach is "good" when travelling alone, there is a little bar complex named "little Pattaya" at the south end of the beach.  There are about 10 bars, each with 5 to 10 ladies, high season, less in the low season.

I will not comment on the general quality of the girls, I have met here a real pearl, once, but have also spent some holidays with no company at all, yes it was that bad...

However, if you come from Pattaya with a BG, I can only advise you to go a little bit more "south" than white sand beach.  White sand is not really nice! And the sand is not...white!  By the way, the Russians are also coming massively to white sand...

Why not try Kae Bae beach or Lonely beach?

Have a look at the Gajapuri hotel in Kae Bae.  Truly awesome...

Blake, thanks for the advice. Have not booked a room yet. Will look at places online with TGF when I get to Pattaya next month.

Elephant trekking has recently risen in price quite steeply, and that is from all the trekking companies as they felt their profits were low, which they were because the number of companies went from 3 to 5/6 in the space of 18 months or so and because of the slow high season due to the riots'protests in Bkk. the best one is the northernmost one on the island in klong son. Ban Kwang Chang its called. Snorkelling trips are also a good idea whilst there. Kayaking from the beach in Klong Prao or Kai Bae to the few small off shore islands is also fun. Jungle trekking if your feeling very fit and energetic. Beautiful island.

Just got back from my trip and had a great time thanks for all that gave input. It was very much low season there but the weather was perfect everyday, hot and no rain. Did the island snorkel trip which was fantastic, hotel pick up, breakfast, BB-Q lunch and snorkel gear. All day trip to 5 islands and awesome clear water with tons of fish at a cost of 500 Baht each.
Also did some trekking which was great. Waterfalls were all pretty dried up since it wasn't rainy season yet.
Stayed at KC resort which we liked and there was hardly anyone there.
All in all a great trip and a place I will go again.

I think KC is the best island in Thailand! The west side has beaches, restaurants, hotels and bars. The east side is more locals and much more quiet. Was in Phuket last year and just to many people and prices all to high. You can motor bike around the island no problem. This was my second time there and will be back again next year.

Hi looking at doing a 5 day trip to koh chang with my favorite bf from pattaya and just wanted to know what's better white sands beach or klong prao beach. I've been trying to do some research but can't tell which one is better, how busy is white sands which seems to be the most popular and is there enough choice in klong prao beach in terms of places to eat and get massages and so on. Also is it worth going to Bangkok to fly there from pattaya or just a taxi and drive there, any information would be much appreciated. I'm looking at going in September

One nightclub has now shut down so its Sabay Bar on the beach in Whitesands where the freelancers/finished early girls will head, unless they are in full party mode which means you'll have to chase them down to Lonely Beach.  There are a few restaurants in Klong Prao along the roadside but from memory it doesn't really have the diversity of what Whitesands can offer you. Theres not really any bars along the street unless your right down at the southern part of klong prao. Theres many hotels that line the beach there to, so most guests would probably just stick to eating there. IMO if your there for 5 days you may as well stay in whitesands and have most things on your doorstep. For everything/anything else there's taxi's and Scooters.

If your going to Pattaya first just minibus down, Whitesands will probably be busier but won't be too full on as your going in september so I would expect a bit of rain, as its their rainy season then.

bm Frankstain i think you have to explore klong prao a little bit better bext time !

1) there are plenty of excellent restaurants in klong prao and most are much cheaper (Chumnan + Kati + Blue Lagoon + JE Seafood ...)

2) there are about 10 bars on the hill named Chai chet cape situated between white sand beach and north klong prao beach easy to reach with songtaew but even better with your own motorbike

3) stay in white sand beach only is a big misstake as the entire Island is easy to reach with motorbike and has plenty of interesting places to see, do or eat, like beachbar boosa on klong prao or sapparot bar @ klong prao estuarium or took ka ta kai moon bbq restaurant @ kai bae with beerbars opposite !

I flew down to Trat via Bangkok Airways. Found a $100 one-way fare, flight took only an hour. I stayed at Paddy Palms for 3 nights. Good place. Went diving one day and spent another day exploring the island on a scooter. Spent my nights at the small bar complex near White Beach. All in all, a good trip and highly recommended.

The worst part of the trip was the hellish 7 hour mini-bus ride from KC to Pattaya. We made two lengthy stops along the way, then the turd brain driver couldn't find my hotel although we passed it twice on Beach Road (Baywalk). I finally just told the guy to stop, I grabbed my stuff, and walked to the hotel. No tip for that ride.

Can I ask how much your mini-bus cost  ?.

I got a taxi myself for 2500bt, all other quotes were 3000bt +.

Picked up at my hotel on White Sands Beach about 8am, arrived in Pattaya 3:30pm. We had 2 stops, about 20-30 mins each.   Its a long journey, no way I could have sat in a mini-bus seat all that time.

Lived in Klong Prao for 7 months. Those are all very good places to eat, I just said about the diversity of the food available. Not really any italian, steakhouses or german restaurants in Klong prao from memory. There are beer bars in most of the towns but as the OP has stated he is taking a girl with him and I'd presume he would get a bike and have a look round the island anyways. Sappoarot bar is a lovely place for a beer, they have 3 new rooms there now that are very nice

No problem as you can't know everything, that is why this forum is so great as we add knowledge from all bm together, but these restaurants are available in klong prao =

steakhouse = Hungry elephant @ VJ PLaza north klong prao better as Buffalo Bills at WSB

italian = Marco & Jo a bit further as entrance of klong prao resort, not been there personally so don't know about quality!

German = Metgerei Baum half way road to klong phlu waterfall. German that makes his own smoked sausages, just great !

I have heard Hungry Elephant is nice and I have enjoyed a carbonara and some chops with sage from Marco and Jo's which is also in the VJ Plaza alley way in Chai Chet.

I do remember your report on Koh Chang being very thorough, well written and with plenty of pics BM themosch. Have you since made a return journey to Koh Chang out of interest.

I'm going to Koh Chang in a couple of weeks..is there a decent place to pick up a bottle of vodka?

7/11 do sell vodka but this is brand dependant as well as the size of the bottle your after. There are 3 wine galleries on the island (whitesands, kai bae and lonely beach) anna store up past paddys and white elephant is the store many bars use. V mart in chai chet will have a good selection and sing tong store in south Klong Prao should have a better selection than 7/11.
