Brooklyn Diner on Soi BuaKhao

The Brooklyn Diner serves up pizza, burgers, pasta and other familiar Western fare, plus some Thai food.  It's located on Soi BuaKhao across from the entrance to Soi LK Metro.

It's not a large or fancy restaurant, but very clean and functional.  Most importantly, the food is good.

The pizza at Brooklyn Diner has earned a place among the best available in Pattaya.  I opted for the 9" meat lovers' pizza and it was great - a thin, crispy crust and the right combination of sauce and toppings. Like Baby Bear's porridge in the story of Goldilocks, it was just right.

The burgers at Brooklyn Diner are also very good.  Tonight I had the bacon cheeseburger for 200 baht.  It came with U.S.-style French fries and raw veggies (slices of tomato, onion, cucumber and dill pickle) that could be placed in the burger or eaten on their own.

The bun, often the most neglected component in a hamburger, was very light, airy and properly toasted with a slightly crispy outer crust.  Unlike a lot of burger buns, the one on Brooklyn Diner's burger enchanced the meat and cheese.

The beef patty was of good quality and seasoned and cooked properly.

The bacon added real flavor and not just saltiness.  I pretty much eat my burgers without any sauces or condiments, but plenty were available, including ketchup, barbecue sauce, Tabasco, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire  sauce and several others.

The weakness link in the meal had to be the fries, which weren't cooked long enough  for my taste.  Not a huge factor for me personally as I seldom eat more than a couple with any burger, but a French-fry lover  would have been disappointed.

Bottom line -  I keep going back to the Brooklyn Diner for the pizza and burgers.  Some day I'll have to try some of the other dishes, but my craving for pizza or a cheeseburger overwhelms me every time I've stepped in so far.

I had one of their pizza's in March... very nice crust...

... and certainly at their price, one of the best deals in that area where pizza prices are all over the map...

It's #2 on my list...

Very comprehensive report.  Many thanks.  Not my usual fare but you might have converted me!

My Pattaya budget is perfectly adequate as long as I don't spend any of it

I had the linguine with shrimp last night and it was delicious. Fresh shrimp, properly cooked pasta and good quality, finely diced ham added to the sauce for extra flavor. The garlic bread was a nice touch, especially with the fresh garlic on top. The main dish cost 190 baht plus 50 baht for my Diet Coke, 240 baht total.

I was in the Brooklyn Diner at about 10 p.m. There were eight other customers at the time and all ordered pizza.  A very popular item!

The Brooklyn Diner is easing back into operation after several weeks of renovation. It's still not up to full speed, but the owner introduced his new menu at a "soft start" last night.

I had the pork schnitzel and it was huge as well as delicious.

post-9139-0-35522300-1402038318.jpg

Flavorful pork had been pounded to the right thickness, then breaded and fried correctly.

The fried potatoes were also very good, accented by bacon and onions.

The schnitzel cost 200 baht.  With a SML and by using the BD discount card, the entire meal cost 255 baht.

Thanks for usual excellent and informative post on the eating establishment. Also great to see the owner is a BM and active here to address both positive and negative post. Being in the food business must be one of the hardest jobs trying to please everyone. I managed a place one time and did not have the patience to deal with some customers. Even had people complain about the free food that was offered during happy hours at the bar. Drove me crazy.

OK, Just come back from lunch there - not sure if I uploaded the photo properly but had a cheeseburger and espresso with milk.

Place was spotless, comfortable and cool - with fast free wi-fi. Bear in mind the password is all lower case (!) and does not begin with capital W as indicated in the sign.

Espresso was one of the best I have had in Pats and cheaper than you would probably pay in a top notch coffee stall. The owner obviously knows his coffee. But I don't think my request for hot milk was understood so it ended up a little tepid.

Burger was very good, marginally overcooked for my taste but that's a personal thing (maybe they could ask your preference?). Meat good quality, delicately spliced (black pepper?) and not too thick. Also, as OP said the bun is perfect : fresh, firm and very slightly toasted. The cheese was exactly as burger cheese should be - that is, without the texture or taste of actual cheese..... (i.e. proper US plastic variety which does not overpower the burger)

The salad was just what you need in a good burger - tomatoes, fresh onions, lettuce and GHERKINS which is vital IMHO. You had the option of building it yourself which I did. Chips were cooked to perfection also, not too dry, not too soggy - and importantly it was obvious had been cooked in oil that was fresh and clean (unlike some places which gives the chips a stale pong and taste)

Service was also very friendly and responsive. If I had any issue here was the fact that being lunchtime it seemed the perfect time for all staff to settle down in the back for a sit-down lunch. Extremely logical in any business perhaps.... apart from maybe a restaurant!!!! :-) I found this very amusing. So I had to knock on the door a couple of times to get mayonnaise and then mustard (which should really have been on the table). But the girl got up and came rushing out and was apologetic so no hard feelings at all. Also, after the second time they did post someone in the main area to respond to any future requests! :-)

For dessert I surveyed the menu again and fancied a blueberry smoothy (sorry no have) so then chose a coconut smoothy (sorry no have) so then asked them what they did have, which to be fair was everything else. They were also happy to mix flavours, and it was pretty good if a little on the sweet side for my taste.

So all in all I'd give it 7 or 8 out of 10 overall. And for 320 THB all-in pretty reasonable. Will probably try the 99THB breakfast next time, it looked good in the menu.

One suggestion for me would be to have that day's english newspaper available to read. That would really attract me to it as a regular breakfast venue (and maybe others), but I'm not sure if the cost would make sense as a proportion of turnover etc.

Anyway, I hope it does well : it deserves to, and the owner sounds a good sort. Didn't see any other customers when I was there so maybe we should spread the word :-)

Last week of March. Ordered a Hawaii pizza with chicken intends of cheese. She's the one that normally takes the customer's order. Something must have happen to her that night because the first time I went into your restaurant a week before she didn't have the face of a bulldog!

Vincent, sorry for being so late on the follow-up on your post.

But, as you might imagine, it will be impossible for me to question my staff on anything that happened 3 month ago. It is already difficult (but I have to say possible, and with success!) to get answer from what went wrong the following day.

So all is left for me to do is apologize for your negative experience and let me assure you we all are dying to make it right for you the next time!

Thanks again for your custom, even if in your case your visit was disappointing to you!

I was in Pattaya last Sept and stopped in for a Burger, it was good, no complaints here.

I owned 3 Pizza shops in the US for a decade, but with the oven out front how can't you sell slices? I was saying with all the foot traffic it should be a gold mine. If it were me, I would be selling slices and Italian Ices, 75 baht a slice and a Ice cold Italian Ice in that heat. Come on!

When it is time to sell in a few years I would be a player. :Think1: Would have to change the name to "Sally's Pizza, Wings and More" :GoldenSmile1:  or "PRIMO's"

I will stop in and say hello the next trip this spring. wish you the best.
